Additional Authoritative email domain

Hi 

The boss wishes to have another Authoritative email domain in Exchange 2016 of Server 2016 Essentials.

I have added Authoritative email domain, setup DNS, added new email account to bosses outlook on LAN pc works ok.

OWA works fine with new email login.

Adding exchange sync email account to mobile devices works ok.

However when setting up outlook externally on boss home pc this does not work, is there some routing thingy I need to do on Server Essentials 2016 for Outlook 2016  to work ?

Can you explain what does not work or what happens if you try to configure Outlook?

Hi M, thanks for replying.

That stupid outlook error... something went wrong .. retry or try another account.

So I went into control panel, Mail icon and setup manually. 

If I put in just username and password I get credentials incorrect.

If I put in domain\username I get cant find server (EAS).. mobile fone settings that works all put in outlook manually.

I think you did not setup autodiscover records for that additional domain. Let me try to explain.

Imagine you have already the following domain 'numinous-travel.com' you will have the following records:

  • Cname record for autodiscover.numinous-travel.com for mail.numinous-travel.com
  • SRV Record for _autodiscover._tcp.numinous-travel.com 0 0 443 mail.numinous-travel.com.
Any user with email address like john.doe@numinous-travel.com will be able to connect to the domain for email using Outlook.
 
In this example the numinous-travel company bought another company, let us say that they bought scandinavian-outdoors.com and they want to use that also. You will need to do this:
 
  • Cname record for autodiscover.scandinavian-outdoors.com for mail.numinous-travel.com
  • SRV Record for _autodiscover._tcp.scandinavian-outdoors.com 0 0 443 mail.numinous-travel.com
Obviously they also need to have a MX record to receive mail for the scandinavian-outdoors.com domain.
 
This will all work perfectly well if port 443 will be forwarded directly to the internal IP address of the Exchange Server on your network but if you are using the Exchange Server integration on your Windows Server 2016 Essentials I am not sure this will work without additional work on the Reverse Proxy setting in IIS.
