Anywhere Access incorrectly reports port 80 is blocked. Prevents installing SSL Certificate

Unable to import newly created Let’s Encrypt certificate running Anywhere Access wizard due to error "Anywhere Access to your server with port 80 is blocked". I have verified with Sonic Wall Port 80 open.  I have run open port check canyouseeme.org and is open.  Anywhere Access works fine for two years.

  • When I try to access the Default Web Site through https:  i.e. all is fine. https://123.123.123
  • When I try to access the Default Web site through http:  The result is: "403 – Forbidden: Access is denied through http://123.123.123"

The default site appears to be blocked in the default website settings IIS Manger. Is there a setting or an alternate way to import the Lets Encrypt certificate other than running Anywhere Access wizard?

Thank you.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!

This is applicable to Windows Server Essentials 2016:  When running Anywhere Access Configure or Repair, the wizard ends with error "Anywhere Access to your server with port 80 is blocked" with no way to continue.

THE FIX:

Go to Internet Information Services, Default Web Site.  Select "SSL Settings", Un-check "Require SSL"

No more false port 80 blocked stop error!

Followed "Get a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate for Access Anywhere and automatically renew it." procedures and it worked perfect!

Thank you Mariette.

If you type http://localhost from the server? What happens?

Ronald Yarbrough

When typing http://localhost  into a browser, the response is "The webpage cannot be found"
