Hello all,
I finally decided to upgrade my client machines from Windows 10 Pro v1909 to v2004, which apparently I shouldn't have done just yet. After the update, none of the clients are backing up to Windows Server 2016 Standard. I'm using the Essentials Experience Role to automate the backups. The Essentials Dashboard on the server reports the computers offline ever since I did the update, so that can't be backed up. However, the client machines' Windows Server Essentials icon is running in the task trays, I can sign in to the Dashboard, and access the server folders.
Has anybody else come across this? Can you help me please Mariette?
Thanks, James
Hello James, unfortunately (in my experience) the Windows 10 Feature Updates break aspects of the Connector. You will need to uninstall the "Client Connector for Windows Server Essentials" and reinstall it on each client machine. (DO NOT remove them in the server) After uninstall you will need to re-add the "SkipDomainJoin" key to each client registry IF they are NOT to be joined to the server domain BEFORE connecting to the server (via Server Name/Connect (or Local IP/Connect)) and downloading and reinstalling the connector.
Thanks,
Joe
Hi Joe,
Thanks! I will give that a try.
James
James, while I do NOT run my clients joined to the server domain; it just dawned on me that IF you have been running your clients joined to the server domain you will want to temporarily install the "SkipDomainJoin" key to each client registry to prevent the possibility that the server may want to setup a second user profile on the client machines. Right after reinstall of the Connector you should remove the key, reboot and then the client machines should join the server domain properly.
Hi James, how did it go?
