I am migrating from SBS 2011 to Windows server 2016 Standard with the Essentials role, and a separate 2016 Exchange server using your guide. We've been running the Exchange 2016 for six months no and I am working through retiring the SBS 2011 box. I have another guide from you detailing how to remove exchange server 2010 from the SBS box but I don't know when to do this or if I even need to? I'm at step 20 of the SBS Migration guide, moving the certificate from the old server to the new one.
Hello Jay,
Yes, it is best practice to uninstall the old Exchange from the SBS 2011. Take a look at chapter 21 of the guide How to migrate Small Business Server 2011 to Windows Server 2016 Essentials. I explain there that you should uninstall Exchange Server 2010 from the SBS 2011 following Uninstall Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011.
If you run into any issue contact me directly. Uninstalling Exchange can sometimes fail, does not happen often but if it does I am here to help with that.
Oh so sorry! I just got to that step and there is the instruction to remove it! I think I was expecting it to be a section on it's own, but of course it needs a whole guide.
