Does Migrating from 2012 R2 essentials to 2016 essentials Preserve client backups?

Hello,

I'm planning to migrate from Server 2012 R2 Essentials to Server 2016 Essentials.  The centralized client Backups and Shares are the primary purpose of this server but have been unable to get any clear answer on these questions:

1. We have a few years of client backups on the server.  Will the client backups be migrated and still be usable or do we simply lose all those?

2. Currently on my Windows 8.1 pro PCs the 2012 R2 client connector Launchpad is automatically signed in and makes shares available when I boot/log into these PCs.  No need to open the Launchpad and log in to enable share access.   The Client connector installed on Windows 10 PCs automatically connects to the server on login (for backups), but doesn't automatically sign into the Launchpad the user so Shares are unavailable until you open the Launchpad and log in.  Can anyone tell me whether this is still the case with 2016 Essentials Server Connector?  Super inconvenient to start an application that requires access to something on a share and have it fail.

If those clients are joined to the domain I am almost certain it will work the way you see on the 2012 server.
