I received this error when performing step 10 of uninstalling Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008. I have attached a screen shot of the command and the error.
Pls, try
msiexec /x {GUID} or msiexec /x '{GUID}'
I performed the first option and got the error "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." I then performed the second option and got the error "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
Did you migrate to Exchange Server 2013 or to Office 365? Was there any integration with O365 in the case you migrated to the cloud? Did you install Azure AADsync on a member server?
We migrated to Office 365 in early 2017. I didn't uninstall Exchange but did disable the services at the time. I did enable the services again before trying to uninstall Exchange. There was never any integration with O365. I remember turning on the syncronization. Once I was ready, I turned off our Exchange services and didn't use it anymore. Except for the suncronization in preparation of moving to the cloud, I never installed anything else.
Hello Steve,
You will have to find out either what software runs with that GUID or you can remove Exchange from the AD using ADSIEdit. If you don't know how to do that send me an email and I will do it for you
I searched the registry for that GUID but came up with nothing. After a lot of Google searching, it sounds like I must have deleted a Group that was created when Exchange was originally installed. I reran the uninstall with this result:
Is it okay to to remove things from Active Directory if I haven't completed the uninstall? Seems like I saw a warning about doing that.
Was that server ever kept up-to-date with Exchange Server 2007 CU's or other updates? Using ADSIEdit is not the preferred way of removing Exchange Server 2007 but if there is no other way you have to. I sometimes do that when nothing works and if you open a support ticket at Microsoft they will also use ADSIEdit but they will tell you it is not supported...
Yes, the server has been kept up to date. We used it as our domain controller and file server until I recently started the transition to Server 2019. It has been our only Windows server. What is the risk if things get screwed up with the decomissioning of the server?
Could removing a connector have caused the problem? It is possible that I did that at some point.
I just went into the Console and got this error (ExchangeConsole1.jpg). Then I clicked on Server Configuration and got the 2nd error (ExchangeConsole2.jpg). It is the same GUID as what came up in the uninstall process.
Steve,
Pls, send me an email so we can organize a meeting to get this fixed?
