I have a C:\DFSRoots\Shared Folders that I don't think I need on a newly setup Server 2016 Essentials, how do I remove it?

There is a server share setup by the install called "Shared Folders", now I don't need this share. Under it is a "Company" folder and a "Users" folder that just  points to the Users and Company share, neither of which I actually will use anyway as we have our own that will be replicated on the new server.

Now the "Shared Folders" share seems to be shared from "C:\DFSRoots\Shared Folders" but I can't turn that share off as it says I have to remove it from DFS or something like that, first. How do I do that? The DFS management doesn't appear to be installed.

I would like advice on how to or whether it's possible to remove this share.

Thanks.

Ian.

Hi, so basically I just have to ignore it then. Annoying! I hate having shares available that serve no purpose to me. That probably explains why I can't uninstall DFS without removing Essentials then?

Question: What is the point of DFS on a Essentials when you can only have one server? Or has that changed since the SBS days?

It allows you to add another Essentials server and add storage to the Essentials Dashboard. Do not try to change the way it works because you will end up with a broken server.

Oh, so you can have more than one Essentials server now then, unlike the SBS days?

You can have more then one Windows Server 2016 Standard + Essentials Experience role. You cannot have have more then one Windows Server Essentials 2016 (the one with 25 users/50 computers) because the last must be the only PDC and owner of all FSMO roles.

Understood, that's not changed from SBS then. I was going to repurpose the old server to a non windows NAS server so that idea can still stay then, otherwise I could've added it as a Windows server on the same domain I guess. Many thanks for the information Mariette.
