A recent SBS 2011 migration has been working just until a raid card died. It's been replaced and the arrays back in order, but the StorageCraft backup is now failing even though it worked find for months. StorageCraft's answer is that they don't support DFS. So my question is can DFS be removed/turned off on the DC?
They system is one physical server with three Hyper-V VMs. DC, Exchange server, and file/app server.
Hello Ron,
No, DFS should not be removed. It is used by Domain Services but what I do not understand is that Storage Craft tells you they do not support DFS. That is sort of telling that they do not support Windows Server in general. What is the problem?
They haven't given me an explanation, they just say it's not supported and can't trouble shoot the problem until it's removed.
Here's my last communication with them:
Regarding Information: SPX - Backups failing Ronald, Unfortuantely there's not enough information to say. Unfortunately DFS has been not supported for a long time so even though it worked for a while we can't troubleshoot a system with it enabled. I will as soon as I figure out how to.
This was not installed recently, it’s been there the whole 4 months this server has been online. Why did it just effect things now?
This is bizarre. DFS is part of the Windows operating system for years and is a crucial part of Domain Controllers communication. John Ottosen has no idea what he is talking about. Escalate your support call at Storage Craft and complain.
