I need to migrate from SBS 2011 to Server 2019, but I want to keep the same server (box). The server has the OS on the c: drive and the data files on the e: drive. Exchange was moved to 365 some time ago. SBS is using AADC to sync from SBS to Azure.
My goal is to have the current SBS box run 2019 and keep the redirected user files as is on the existing box.
The information I see here really doesn't support what I want to do as it seems tailored to move SBS from one box to a new box.
Is what I want to do possible? I would guess I would have to spin up a temporary 2019 server and move AD and GPO's from the SBS box to the temporary server. Then install 2019 on the SBS box and move AD and GPO's back to the original SBS box. I like your description of the PS scripts that automate a lot of the migration processes and am wondering if they would work in the scenario I propose.
Would your migration guide still be applicable for what I want to do or do I need hands on guidance for this project?
Yes, the kits will still help you performing this migration. As you have all your user data on a seperate partition you can do this:
Make sure you break AADsync before you uninstall Exchange and demote old SBS!
