Nearing the end of migration and running into an error trying to install the Windows Server Migration feature on the old 2016 server. Install went fine on the new server. Attaching images of the error.
Is there a way around this without too much work?
Hi Greg,
Is this a Dell server installed with Dell media?
It's actually a Lenovo Server.
Lenovo ThinkSystem ST550 - J1001415
There is no easy fix for this problem. If you Google that error message you will find lots of people having this issue. It is related to language settings and roles installed. It seems it is related to customized media from a vendor that injected stuff in the registry that should not be there. If this is blocking your migration let me know and I will help you doing it with the Migration tools from Microsoft.
Thanks. Yes, my research showed the same thing. Over the weekend I tried removing the language packs, but it just errors out. I'm guessing there might be something in the registry saying they exist, but when uninstalling they are not there. All other tasks have been completed successfully up to this step. I hate to spend a ton of effort on this, basically just need to transfer files at this point. Would love you to get your thoughts and help. This is a production server but only used from 7AM-5:30PM CST M-F.
Let us schedule some time during the weekend or any time it allows for us to work on the server. Pls, contact me through email so we can arrange a Teams meeting :)
