Missing Server Folders and drives in the dashboard

Recently 2 Sever Essential 2016 servers show in the daily report "Windows Server Essentials Storage Service" as not running.  I can restart the service but it seems to stop again after 15-20 minutes.  Everything including backup appears to be working so I put resolving on the 'back burner'.....till today.  

I tried to add a another backup drive using the dashboard but as soon as I click on the "click to set up server backup" link, a popup appears; "An error occurred while configuring the backup policy. Open the health monitoring tab to see if there are any alerts that can help you".  There were none and then I noticed the "server folders" and "hard dives" tabs, under storage, are empty as well.

I read the article Server folders in the Essentials dashboard show missing (server-essentials.com)  but restarting the service does not seem to resolve any of these problems, even temporarily.  Two servers have the same issues and have been updated to Aug 8/2021.

Anyone with any suggestions or similar experience?
