Hi,
I have a Windows Server Essentials 2016 Network at home with several Clients (All win 10 x64 professional, current Patchlevel, the problem occurs on ver 1809 as well as on 1903.
I have my DNS set up on my server, works fine.
The local DNS is being propagated on the network by my router, so all clients are on autodetection of DNS and find my DNS correctly, A single client suddenly started to set the DNS as if it was set manually in the network adapter options under Ipv4 and Ipv6. This resulted in the network type detection detecting my network as "private". As soon as I delete the entries, it's back to "domain" type. But if I disable and re-enable the adapter or reboot the client - the deleted DNS entries are back and I cannot get rid of them.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device and updating the network cards driver, no difference.
Can anyone point me to how to delete the DNS entries in the network adapter properties permanently and force autodetection of the DNS settings?
Thanks!
Yes, that is a known issue. DNS ipv6 takes precedence over ipv4 and that causes problems on clients connected to the WSE 2016. Make sure you disable DHCP ipv6 on your router or better, turn off DHCP completely on your router and configure WSE 2016 with DHCP as in Install the DHCP Server role and configure a DHCP scope on a Windows Server 2016 Essentials
