On-Prem Exchange 2019 Missing Emails

Hello All,

Disclaimer. I am not an exchange admin and/or expert. With that being said. I have configured Exchange 2019 and I am able to send and receive emails. However, I am running into an odd situation. Sporadically throughout the day I start noticing that emails are not being delivered. The are confirmed sent from the sender but do not appear in my inbox.

Now when this behavior starts happening, the outlook application starts asking me for my password. My password is saved but I have to hit ok like several times in order to advance to the next screen and start sending and receiving emails again.

Once Exchange accepts my password I am able to send and receive email but it appears any email sent to me during this time frame just disappears and is not delivered to my inbox.

Is there a way for me to run some type of query or logs in Exchange to find out what is happening? Is this a common occurrence in Exchange 2019?

Thanks for all responses.

For logging and mail flow you can either use:

  1. EAC (Exchange Admin Center)
  2. Or Queue Viewer from the Toolbox (see Start menu Exchange Server)

Bob,

If Outlook prompts you for a password something is wrong with autodiscover on your server. Exchange Server 2019 is rock solid as far as I know. There can be so many reasons why email is not received or send but let me begin with some questions:

  • do you have a SPF record setup?
  • do you have a PTR record setup?
  • do have have DMARC record setup?
  • do you have a valid certificate at your Exchange Server that shows ALL the domains and subdomains involved?
Any mistake in the above or falling to have the first two cause email to fail either way.
