Following migration to server 2016 essentials one workstation has no permissions to the desktop and still showing permissions error to the old 2008 SBS server.
The migration was not complete from the 2008 SBS with no folder redirection and DCPROMO due to disabled old server.
Old server was shut down and removed.
Jim,
Pls, explain a bit more. Is there Folder redirection involved or not? I am confused about what you write.
I had folder redirection enabled on the 2008 SBS. The migration steps on the 2008 server were completed up to checking the Folder Redirection and the DCPROMO which were not done, time elapsed and the 2008 OS was automatically disabled. So with no other choices the 2008 machine was shut down and removed from the network. Folder Redirection was enabled on the 20016 server just prior to disconnecting the 2008 server.
One Windows 7 workstation lost icons on the desktop and in the process of trying to resolve this, it was set to WORKGROUP and then domain joined again. Following this that client will not allow any icons to the desktop and still complains about no permissions to the 2008 server. It pops up a notice that the old server lacks permission. Permissions have been granted to files and folders and ownership adjusted, but now getting this message when attempting to add anything to the desktop and I cannot find any of the previous desktop items.

Let me know if anything is unclear.
Thanks,

Sorry about the repetition with my faulty paste and proof reading failure.
These are the two popup messages...
Jim and I are working on this remotely and we found that wrong settings on the root of the Folder Redirection share caused the issues.
