I've been running WSE 2016 for a while on my home network for backup and serving media. I'm trying to increase the storage of my mirrored pool and need to remove a simple volume (physical) drive to free up a slot for the 2 new drives as I've only got 1 slot free at the moment. I've moved all the folders off the existing D drive but can't figure out how to remove it properly so that WSE still sees all the devices. When I remove it and restart, the dashboard doesn't display any of the devices and it takes a long time for the dashboard to load as opposed the normal 5-10 seconds. If I recreate the D drive and ServerFolders folder, even though there's nothing on the drive, everything shows back up. However if i try to do that using a new partition on a different disk as D with the ServerFolders folders the devices don't show up. I have to use the same physical drive for the devices to show up.
I know I'm probably missing something really easy but it's got me stumped at the moment. All the online help talks about adding drives or removing drives from storage pools, but not simply removing a simple physical volume.
It appears that I had done everything needed except I neglected to turn off Shadow Copies on the drive prior to removing it from the system.
