Hi,
One of the first steps in starting my migration is to do the SystemStateBackup. As my Server is already in a VM I can't use an external USB, so how do I do that?
Initially I used the USB Passthrough by putting a USB harddrive attached to the host, offline and then added as a physical drive in the VM, but the SystemState sees it as one of the drives to backup in the process so it fails doing the SystemStateBackup.
I tried using a USB memory stick on the host but there was no option to put that offline, so that option didn't work, and I am out of ideas!
Ultimately, if it can't be done then I do have a full backup of the VM using Altaro VM Backup (I do like this program!), which in the event of some disaster I would probably use as the recovery, would that be OK or is there way to get a SystemStateBackup on the VM?
Thanks
Rob
Hello Robert,
Any other method that includes a full system restore will do. Altaro VM Backup is such an example that can replace a System State Backup. The fact I have that chapter in the guide is to make sure we have a disaster recovery method.
