Hi,
i am considering my steps in migration the 2008 sbs server making ready all backups and upgrades. From my understanding it is best to first move the exchange to a new location and than handle the rest of the sbs roles. Reading the tutorial for migration exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 on windows 2012 R2 it says:
"In this situation we already have installed Windows Server Essentials 2012R2 or a Windows Server 2016 and we migrated FSMO roles from the SBS 2008 to that new server"
i want to 1st. migrate the exchange - see it all running smoothly on the new 2013 server and after that migrate the other roles (AD,DC etc..). Can i first move the exchange 2007 to the new 2013 server without migrating the FSMO roles or it is a must to migrate the FSMO to the new server first ?
Thanks a lot for the support !
You can migrate Exchange 2007 to 2013 without any other replica Domain Controllers as I suggest. It was merely an example of how things can be done but your idea will work.
