SBS 2008 to wse2016 migration

How long does step 6 part 24 take to complete. I am at a blinking cursor after Adprep successfully updated the forest-wide information  and updated the domain-wide information. Still waiting for a PS prompt.

Thanks,

Dave

Can my client still use their existing SBS 2008 environment while I am working on their migration? They will be in to work in about 3 hours and will need to log onto their computers.

Yes, that should not cause any issues for the SBS 2008. If this continues to be a problem I suggest you check the logs to see what is happening. Or you can open a support ticket here https://server-essentials.com/support

Did you mean should not cause any problems? Also, which log files should I check?

Thanks, fixed that. It is still early here and I need more coffee :). Check the logs in the event viewer for any dcpromo related issues.

I did find an Event ID: 1125 that states The Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard (Dcpromo) was unable to establish connection with the following domain controller which is the SBS 2008. Error Value: 1749 The security context is invalid. Seems to be occurring every 17 minutes.

Hmmm, looks like there is an orphaned DC in your network? Was this server previously migrated from something else? If so, what method was used?

No, it was a clean install. Is it possible that I didn't do the password correctly in Step 6.24?

Well, yes that could be. You can close that Powershell window and do it again but I am wondering if that will fix it.

There are 3 event ID's related to ADDS. The 1125 (Setup), 1962 (DS RPC Client) and 2513 (DS RPC Client). Here are each messages:

1125 - The Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard (Dcpromo) was unable to establish connection with the following domain controller.

    Domain controller: NTVBSERVER.ntvbmedia.local

1962 - The local directory service received an exception from a remote procedure call (RPC) connection. Extended error information is not available.

    directory service: NTVBSERVER.ntvbmedia.local

2513 - Atempting to set the desired authentication protocol for a connection to the following DSA failed.

    DSA: NTVBSERVER.ntvbmedia.local

All had the following Additional Data Error Value: 1749 The security context is invalid

This appears to repeat itself over and over.
