Hi
Can I delete the contents of c:\windows\softwaredistibution\download to free up some space on the 'C' drive?
If this is possible without any negative consequences, what is the best way?
I've ran Disk Cleanup etc. but need to free up some more space.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
That folder holds all the updates and can be deleted:
Sorry - Just to clarify. The 'softwaredistribution' folder itself can be deleted or just the contents? If I delete the 'softwaredistribution' folder in in entirety, will it be recreated automatically and will I need to reboot the server?
You can delete the folder or delete the contents, it is up to you. Once the 'wuauserv' service is started it will create a new folder anyway. No reboot needed.
Fantastic - Thank you
Hi - I've stopped the windows Update Service and tried deleting the 'SoftwareDistribution' folder. the following message is displayed:
Folder in Use - The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder and try again
Should there be another service/process that needs to be stopped?
Maybe a reboot is needed before you do this? Give it a try...
All sorted - Many thanks for your help. It is appreciated
