I have an old(!) sbs2008 system I'm trying to migrate but cant get a systemstate backup as "system writer" is missing
I have been through all the KB articles I can find and other workarounds and still system writer refuses to show up and hence systemstate backup fails
2 questions now i guess
Thanks in advance!
Tim
Windows Server Backup can cause problems on such an old server. If you have another method/third party solution that does make reliable backups you can continue. The reason I suggest making a system state backup is that if anything goes wrong we have a way to restore the old SBS 2008.
Even if you don't do a migration you must have reliable backups. How did you backup this server in the past?
The server is being backed up with BackupAssist to an external usb drive AND also via Synology backup agent to a NAS
Both seem to work fine - was just concerned about not having the Systemstate backup before making further changes
I'll take a couple of "extra" backups and soldier on rather than waste more time tying to fix this systemwriter issue I think!
Tim, your solution appearantly has its own writers to do the job. If you know how to do a disaster restore with BackupAssist it is good to continue without doing a System State Backup as I suggest in the kit. Just make sure you are always prepared to do a restore even if you think you will not need it!
Fingers firmly crossed! Will run an extra independant backup for DR and continue forward!
