Sbs2011 PDC / DC Time Sync

HI,

In SBS2011 to Server 2016 Migration Guide, in Section 4, you make a point of the Time synchronization between the PDC and the other DC members.

At Section 4, we just have the old SBS2011 machine, and currently my SBS2011 box is synchronizing to an external NTP server, however you are suggesting that Before the New server 2016 is live, that the SBS2011 is synchronizing to (w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier) ie the PDC ( which does not yet exist) , and also later on in the chapters I cant obviously see where the New server 2016 is setup to synchronize to an External NTP server ?

The following article provide some insight

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/nepapfe/2013/03/01/its-simple-time-configuration-in-active-directory/

and in the side notes is also states that the PDC should not Sync with itself

am i worrying unnecessarily !

TIA

Chris

Chris,

We set this to make 100% sure that both DC's have the same time, no matter what. How time is set later on depends on if the new DC is on physical hardware or not.
