Good afternoon. I have a client that uses Server 2016 Essentials for remote access to their computers. Today one of the users was unable to connect to her computer remotely. She is able to sign into the remote.domain.com site, however when she clicks on the icon for her computer, it says "the logon attempt failed" and rejects her password. Seems the same thing happens for the domain admin user when I tested it as well. I am able to connect to her computer via rdp internally, just not through the gateway. I have restarted the server, and ensured that the correct computer is assigned in the Essentials Dashboard. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Also, Which Windows event log should I check for more info?
Hello Rodolfo,
Does the server have a valid certificate for the remote.domain.com website? I suspect that the certificate is not bound to the RDP Gateway service, so the logs for that service could help.
The certificate appears to be valid until next year. What's the name of the event log I should check? Sorry to bug you so late, this isn't an emergency and it can wait.
I rekeyed the SSL certificate using the Essentials Dashboard, still not taking my password. I tried two different accounts including the domain admin. Can't seem to authenticate past the gateway. Please let me know when we can connect to have a look. Thanks.
I have send you a Teams meeting invite for tomorrow 9am your time
We will probably never understand what the cause of this was but it was something with the client computer connecting to RDP, other clients work fine.
