Im runnning the dcpromo to demote my SBS 2011 box but get the error attached saying that it cannot determine ownership of single-master operation roles.
https://app.box.com/s/4x02yenjgtq9rwu9zvbntiwf8g2y59gs
all the FSMO roles are showing as being on the new Server 2016 correctly.
Should I correct this or just move on to remove things via DNS / AD in the final step ??
Thanks
Dave
Hello Dave,
I am not sure why this happens but I would not continue before this issue has been fixed. This looks like some permissions issue or it could also mean that some service is not running on the old SBS like 'Remote registry'. Can you run 'netdom query fsmo' and check where the roles are?
Yes the service is running on the old SBS, Im logged on with a domain admin account and the 5 roles are showing as being on server which is the new 2016 box.
This could also be caused by a DNS problem. Are both DC pointing to each other? Do you have other firewalls running than the standard Microsoft firewall? If you only have Microsoft Firewall running make sure it is not disabled.

Thanks Mariette, all DNS was pointing correctly , only MS firewalls and turned on - but the link you sent seems to have fixed it and allowed me to finish the DCPromo correctly.
Regards Dave
I may have problems that I didnt realise I had. The dcpromo has gone through but my client computers are now having issues connecting and prompting for credentials when they try and access the shared folders on the new Server. If I supply the credentials I can see the shared folders ??
The answer to this issue is http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2011/03/ad-ds-operation-failed-directory.html. Rare condition.
