Step number 14 of Migrate Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011 to a new Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 states that exchange 2010 must be uninstalled before proceeding. There is a link there referencing uninstalling Exchange 2010 from SBS 2011 but I don't see any instructions in the link. Can anyone point me to the proper instructions for removing Exchange 2010 properly?
Hello Rob,
The tutorial for that is here How to properly remove Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011 but you should also read chapter 21 of How to migrate Small Business Server 2011 to Windows Server 2016 Essentials before you continue. I assume you migrate from SBS 2011 to a Windows Server 2016 DC with the Essentials Experience role and another server with Windows Server 2016 + Exchange Server 2016? If that is your path can you tell me what else you already migrated?
Uninstalling Exchange Server 2010 from the SBS 2011 breaks the Dashboard on that server. Any activities like adding a user with a mailbox should be done on the Exchange Server 2016 after you have uninstalled Exchange Server 2010 from the SBS 2011. Any other AD related procedure must be done from ADUC, either on the SBS 2011 or on the new Windows Server 2016 DC.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm doing the migration to Server 2016 standard without the essentials experience. I have 2 VM's (1 server 2016 as a Domain controller and 1 server 2016 with exchange 2016). I've migrated DNS, DHCP, made the server 2016 a domain controller, completed everything with the exchange 2016 except the AARConfig (I only have 1 public IP Address). I haven't moved the FSMO roles to the 2016 DC yet. I think once I get Exchange 2010 uninstalled and the AARConfig completed, i'll be ready to do that and then demote the SBS2011 server.
No, ARR is only available when you use the Essentials Experience role in Windows Server 2016 Essentials. No need to configure that on Standard, it is not there.
