I guess you have to start from scratch like it's the first time the connection has ever been setup, including uninstalling and re-adding the registry key. Here's what to do for anybody else who runs into this:
Step 01: Uninstall connector software from client machine.
Step 02: Restart computer.
Step 03: cmd (admin) > reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Server\ClientDeployment" /v SkipDomainJoin /t REG_DWORD /d 1
Step 04: Reinstall the connector software.
