Windows Server 2016 essentials issue

Windows Server 2016 essentials “start a backup” and “customize backup for the computer” not showing in my client computers task pane.

All clients have been set up using the SkipDomainJoin option.

I have removed the computers from the server and re-installed them. After they have been set up, all client task pane options are there, however after a backup has run, the “start a backup” and “customize backup for the computer” are not showing up in the client computers task pane.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Skip

I am wondering if properly joined clients have the same issue? Why do you do SkipDomainJoin? You miss all the goodies from having an AD

Mariette,

I am coming from WHS 2011 with only 3 home computers to keep up with and did not want to get into the whole AD thing. I do not really understand it either.

I did remove 2 of my computers from the server, uninstalled the connector software, set the workgroup back to the workgroup, it was set to MYSERVERNAME.local, and turned off “Auto-enable backup when client computer connected”.

So far after 3 backups, 2 manual and 1 automatic, all my tasks are showing in the 2 client computers’ task pane.

I will not call it solved until I get a few more days of backups with all the tasks still showing.

Thanks,

Skip

Did you check the logs on the server and the client?
