EBS 2008 and Exchange 2007 migration

I'm trying to do an Exchange migration to 2013 on Essential Business Server 2008.

The EBS was broken up in the past with the tools Microsoft supplied when EBS 2008 was end of life, to get 3 independent servers.

Only the management server and the Exchange server are still running. The security server is decommissioned.

No issues with this setup whatsoever, but migration has to be done to Exchange 2013 to be able to go to 2019.

Exchange 2007 is still version 8.1.436.0 (Update Rollup 10 for Exchange Server 2007 SP1).

Microsoft installer is V4.5.

Trying to upgrade to SP2 or SP3 fails with error "Failed to initialize the log file: Access to the path 'C:\exchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log' is denied. Setup will not continue.".

Found the article for SBS where you have to add a registry key, but this does not work for EBS. There is a key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EssentialBusinessServer\Exchange, but adding E12SP2READY does not work.

Also tried stopping the transport and store service, no effect.

UAC was already disabled, so that is not the issue.

Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks,

Jos

Got it sorted out, if anybody ever needs it.

You need to start the setup from an administrator command prompt.
