How to upgrade Sharepoint to SQL 2000 By Mariette Knap sharepoint, full text search This article describes how to upgrade Sharepoint to full blown SQL 2000 and enable full text search in Sharepoint. All steps involved can be found on the Premium Technology CD (premiuminstallsteps.htm) but this document gives you a visual guide with screenshots of every step. In our forum we see that users install SQL 2000 but forget to check the setting in the installer that gives you the option to install 'Full Text Search'. If you do not install the 'Full Text Search' option it will not work in Sharepoint. Installing SQL 2000 on your SBS 2003 server Put the Premium Technology CD in your CD player and have a look at the first screenshot. Choose 'Install Microsoft SQL Server 2000'. Note that if you run this from SBS 2003 Premium Technologies the extract window will show, if you install SQL 2000 from Gold media the SQL installer will start immediately. Click continue and ignore this warning. Click next to continue setup Be sure that local computer is selected and click next. Select 'Upgrade, remove, or add components to an excisting instance of SQL server'. Click next. Enter your CD Key. This is the same key as you used for the initial installation of your SBS 2003 server. Select the Sharepoint instance for the upgrade. Note that you should not try to upgrade the Monitoring instance, this is not supported! Select 'Upgrade your existing installation'. Check 'Yes, upgrade my programs'. Click yes to install additional components. If you click no you will not be able to use Full Text Search in Sharepoint! Most important is that you check 'Full Text Search'. In addition to this I always install 'Management Tools', that includes Enterprise Manager, Profiler and Query Analyzer. If you want Help online you should also check 'Books Online'. Setup knows enough, click next. Setup is installing several components for you. Setup requires that you reboot your server. Click finish to reboot your server. Install SP4 for SQL 2000 We still need to install Service Pack 4 for SQL 2000 on the server. We do this from the Premium Technology CD. Choose to install SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4. Choose a folder where you want extract SP4. Note that if you install SP4 for SQL 2000 from Gold SBS 2003 Media (not SP1 integrated) you will not see the extraction window and SP4 installation will start immediately. Setup starts...click next. Click yes to accept the EULA. Select the Sharepoint instance and choose next. Select the 'Windows account' and click next. You may choose to send error reports to Microsoft, choose OK. Choose next. Setup runs the upgrade scripts. Setup warns you that the databases have been changed and that you should backup. Setup is finished, click Finish. Activate Full Text Search in Sharepoint From the start menu open Sharepoint Central Administration. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose 'Configure full-text search'. Houston...we have a problem. After installing SP4 the Sharepoint instance has been stopped and not started. Start the Sharepoint instance from the services applet in Computer Management. Now let us try again to activate Full Text Search in Sharepoint. As you see we get an option to activate the Futt Text Search option and we choose OK. Open Internet Explorer and the company web will open. On the top left you will see a search box. If it does not appear you have a mistake somewhere and you need to review this article to see what you have done wrong.
