Connecting a Windows 10 Pro to a Windows Server 2016 Essentials (TP3) with the Connector By Mariette Knap windows server essentials 2016, join domain, connector Some time ago we found that joining a Windows 10 Pro to our Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials was problematic. Out of the box that did not work and we needed to update the Connector software first. After we had done that and joined the Windows 10 Pro successfully to our server we found that the GPO’s did not apply because of wrong WMI filters and that the client did not show up in WSUS as a Windows 10 Pro client but as a Vista client. Because Windows Server 2016 Essentials and Windows 10 should be the ideal fit I am curious if we get the same problems as on Windows Server 2012 R2 when joining. In TP3 it is not possible to use the Connector via the browser. You need to download the upgraded version and install that. Once that is done we can continue. I have heard rumors that this will be fixed in October on Windows Server 2012 and 2016. Anyway, not a big problem. We will continue testing Windows Server 2016 Essentials. Open the start menu and look for ‘Windows Server Essentials’. There you will find the Connector you just installed. Run that. It has found our AdatumServer. Click Next. Type your credentials and click Next I choose No because this is a test installation for the admin on the server. We need to restart our computer. Click Restart. Set this computer for myself and click Next. Give the PC a name. Choose to wake up the computer for backup and choose Next. Click Finish Once started we are presented with the login for your domain.
