Restore files and folders in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials By Mariette Knap restore, files, folders Restoring files and folders on your Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server is as easy as a couple of mouse clicks and you are done. This little tutorial shows you in a few steps how to that. In the tutorial How to backup your Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server to USB drives we briefly explained how to backup your server to removable USB drives. It is now time to do a simple file and folder restore. In another tutorial we will explain how do a disaster restore in the case your server crashed because of hardware problems or even worse, fire or theft. From the Windows Server Essentials Dashboard right the server or click ‘Restore files or folders for the server’. Click Next Choose ‘On this server’. We want to restore some files and folders from our most recent backup. If you choose the other option you can choose another date. Choose ‘Files or folders’. We want to restore the Company folder because somebody deleted all files and folders in the Company folder. Click Next If you are sure that you want to replace the original content with the restored content you can choose ‘Replace the existing items with the restore versions’ but it is saver make copies. Choose next. Click ‘Restore now’. Items are successfully restored. You can open the restore location to see the files and folders you just restored. That is it for now. It seems a bit silly to write tutorials about these very easy tasks but for the new administrator who has never even touched a server before this may help making a quick start. Anyway, I wanted to make the screenshots because I was working on a new server and here you are. Next tutorial will be about a disaster recovery of the server and that is a bit more complicated.
