Hello All:
I recently changed the name of my domain using the primer from here. After changing the domain name, I was unable to change the computer name from aestone.stone-and-stone to aestone.stoneandstone1, see attached, I keep getting an error message saying that "aestone.stone-and-stone.local was unexpected. The full computer name is aestone.stone-and-stone.local, I want that to be aestone.stoneandstone1.local. Can someone tell me how to change the full computer name. I have not yet re-installed the essential role on the computer. thanks for any and all responses

After further reading your initial post I understand that you do not rename a computername but you are renaming the domain name and that is a different procedure. If you have followed How to rename an Active Directory domain name of a Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Essentials Experience role installed all should be fine. Did you already ask this question here https://server-essentials.com/community/answers/unable-to-rename-directory?
Hi:
I guess I did ask this question before, sorry about that. Is there a way to rename the computer from aestone.stone-and-stone.local to aestone.stoneandstone1.local, I have already changed the domain name, but, want to change the computer full name, thanks, Allen
This is done in step 4 of How to rename an Active Directory domain name of a Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Essentials Experience role installed (server-essentials.com)
I guess my question was in artfully posed. What I want to do is rename the computer from aestone.stone-and-stone.local to aestone.stoneandstone1.com. The domain has already been renamed as evidencedby the domain name under properties, see attached. The computer full name has not changed from aestone.stone-and-stone.local to aestone.stoneandstone1.com. I want the computer name to match the domain name. The instructions that I was given are used to change the hostname, I am not trying to change the host name, but the computer full name, can you tell me how to accomplish that task?
One last thing, when I type the command: netdom aestone.stone-and-stone.local /add:aestone.stoneandstone1.local, I get the error message that the parameter of aestone was unexpected. Thank you for your anticipated response, Allen
From an elevated command prompt run:
netdom computername aestone.stone-and-stone.local /enumerate
Post the output in your answer.
I followed the advice and everything worked correctly. Once I saw that the commands were being performed successfully, I went ahead and completed the change in name. Everything is as I wanted, the full computer name is aestone.stoneandstone1.com. I want to express my thanks for all your assistance, I would not have been able to do this without your help. You have my profound thanks for your assistance, thank you once again, Allen
