Hi Mariette Is it me or is it missing from https://server-essentials.com/support/install-exchange-server-2016-in-existing-windows-server-essentials-2016-network Thanks Bill
I'm sure I'm just over thinking this, But I'm left confused by the Forest level required to start a Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 first step. In "How to migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server 2019 Standard, Datacenter or Essentials" in the "FAQ" section... "When can I migrate Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2010/2016 or Office 365?" you state... "You can start with migrating your mailboxes from Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2010/2016/2019 even before you migrate the FSMO roles or do any other of the migration-related procedures in this guide but I ...
Migration from SBS 2011 Standard to Windows 2016 Essentials is progressing, most issues solved nicely by our friends at server-essentials - and then: One user, with much Mac enthusiasm, has a MacBook Air, and is in the 'beta testing' loop with macOS Catalina. https:// /connect downloads MacConnector.dmg, opens with DiskImageMounter to give a window with Connector for Mac. Running the connector produces 'You can't use this version of the application with this vesion of MacOS'. The user diagnoses that the connector downloaded is 32-bit, and Catalina only runs 64-bit components. I sense another attempt by Apple ...
HI Mariette, I found another one of your excellent tutorials! Thank you for these!! https://server-essentials.com/support/connect-computers-to-a-windows-server-essentials-server-without-joining-the-domain Just needed a little clarification. I'm connecting a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit computer to Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Which is the correct Connector Update to install for this situation (because there are like 4 x64 and 4 x86 downloads to choose from)? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40285 Thank you, as always! James
Hi all Using IISCrypto https://www.nartac.com/Products/IISCrypto/ My server ( Essentials 2016 ) went from a B ( not a pass ) to an A ( pass ). https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/ Everything working great, emails, remote, vpns etc until I had to redo the blasted connector software that keeps losing pcs in dashboard. When I tried reinstalling ( and uninstalling ) I get.... Cannot connect this computer to the network, The server is unavailable. Are my Schannel and Cyphers Suites too strict ( attached ) ? Does anyone know which protocols I ...
The script is mentioned in Part 6. Uninstall SBS 2011 Client Agent software, however it is not attached in powershell_scripts.zip file. Please, let me know where I can get it. Thank you
Hi, I want to simply add Server 2008 to Essentials 2016. I have tried using the connect method which works fine for all the Win7 clients but this server just won't accept that method - I suspect by design ?? For clarity, the 2008 server has no roles or features added to it - Its freshly formatted and right up to date. What I have done so far is to manually change the work-group to the Domain and successfully added it but it wont show up in the Dashboard at all. I would appreciate some ...
Migrating from SBS 2011 to 2016 Essentials. I'm trying to promote new server as a DC. Everything was fine up to step 44 where it's supposed to replicate to any domain controller. I get an error message: Could not retrieve domain controllers. External component has thrown an exception
Hi All, we migrated our SBS2011 Standard to Windows Server Essentials 2016 with your Migration Guide and all was fine till the end of the guide, no problems also DCDIAG /test:DNS /DNSALL /e /v all passed. Now i have all two minutes the following message in the events: Critical Warning: FSMOCompliance: License Error: The FSMO Role Check detected a condition in your environment that is out of compliance with the licensing policy. The Management Server must hold the primary domain controller and domain naming master Active Directory roles. Please move the Active Directory roles to the Management ...
I'm continuously getting failure of updating WSE with the 2018-05 Cumulative Update for windows Server 2016 (KB4103720). I get back:- Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\John\AppData \Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\4KP7L1UU\windows10.0-kb410371 4-x64_97bad62ead2010977fa1e9b5226e77dd9e5a5cb7.msu" ") Can anybody out the suggest what I do next? I see some discussions for W10 errors like this, no solutions! and no fix for WS or WSW 2016! John
Hi! I have just migrated a Windows Server 2016 Essentials to a virtualized Win2022 host with to VMs with Win2022. One of the VMs is DC and on the other (named ts01) I want to install Remote Desktop Role. TS01 is installed and joined to the domain. I logon to it with a domain administrator account. When trying to install the Remote Desktop Services I get an error message on installing "Remote Desktop Services role services" saying: "Current security context is not associated with an Active Directory domain or forest". What could be the cause ...
Just starting to migrate our SBS2011 server to 2019. We have two domain controllers, WMKL-SBS and DC1. We installed DC1 about a year or so ago as a backup domain controller and we have already moved DHCP, DNS and all data shares to this server. At Step 7 in the migration kit we are using it says to check the event log for Journal wrap events. We don't have any of those events listed. I did open the linked document - https://server-essentials.com/support/understanding-active-directory-health-during-an-active-directory-migration-and-tools-you-can-use-like-repadmin-and-dcdiag and started to work through the steps here. Attached are the out puts from both ...
Source is SBS 2011 (previously migrated from SBS 2003 5 years ago). Target will be 2016 Essentials. Before doing the FSR to DFSR migration in phase 2, I ran "dcdiag /c" on source. It does have some errors, but I'm not sure which ones may be critical that I need to be concerned with and try to cleanup before doing the FRS migration. Results of the dcdiag can be viewed here: http://kwsupport.com/downloads/dcdiag-sbs2011-2.pdf
Good morning, I attempted to demote my SBS yesterday but dcpromo failed. I have the following error (screen shot attached): Active Directory Domain Services could not transfer the remaining data in directory partition DC=DomainDnsZones,DC= DC=local to Active Directory Domain Controller "The directory service is missing mandatory configuration information, and is unable to determine the ownership of floating single-master operation roles." I have confirmed that my new WS2019 DC holds the master roles. My SBS 2011 was originally created from a swing migration from SBS 2003 - ...
How can I remove unwanted computer backups created by 2016 Essentials? I don't have enough disks space to store computer backups but before I could disable one of the computers, it backed up using 40+ GB of needed space. I removed the backup using the Dashboard for this computer and selected to have the backup files deleted. The files still appear. Will they be removed by a scheduled process or do I need to remove them? If so, how can I do this? Many thanks. --Art
Hi, I have gone over the tutorial on changing the Folder Redirection and am sure I have it right. It still does not take ofr the Desktop, even after multiple boots. Is it really required to touch and reboot every client 3 times? Should I just wait a few hours for GP to propagate? It seems like something is not right. Even a computer just joined with Connect did not pick up the policy. There are two other issues that could possibly be related. The WSE 2016 Dashboard isn't quite showing the same location as the ...
I'm not sure why but I have several computers that show "offline" on the dashboard but they are not. This is troubling because its not reliable to know if updates were not run etc.
Hi Mariette, Since your DFS Tutorial My preference on file migration is the DFS method (which has been very successful) Is there any pitfalls or anything I should know before I start this process. JOE HEALY
This one has always boggled me... If I have a server with folder redirects (using a GPO) and migrate the server - doesn't matter if I use RoboCopy or DFS to migrate the data, the first time that user logs in - it takes 5-10 (sometimes longer) minutes for the GPO to move the data again. If I move the data and delete on the old server - the GPO will kick off an error and I leave it on both, the GPO moves it again. There MUST be a way, to seamlessly move end ...
Hi Mariette, DFS Management is missing from the Tools List in server manager Do I need to add that role myself. Remote Server Administration Tools > Role Administration Tools > File Services Joe
Mariette, I am in the middle of a migration and moving server folders with DFS. I managed to delete the Namespace from the DFS Manager when breaking a replication job from old server to new.( laptop Mouse pad !) While there is no data lost what impact will this have? Can I create a new name space I have one more server folder to migrate to the new server. Thnks in advance JOE
Hi, I've not yet experienced the issue described in the DFS Replication 4012 Tutorial as my SBS has not been offline for 6 months however I like to plan ahead! The guide is very clear that it is for a single DC environment, is this because this issue will not affect a multi DC environment or is the fix more complex? Thank you Ian
Mariette, DFS was running and populating new 2016 server with files. After 24 hours it looked like we were well over 95% of files copied. I ran DFS diagnostic health report. It had one glaring error: "DFS replication service detected that the staging area usage has exceeded its quota size of 4096 MB" . I did some research and found this Microsoft blog post about it, which included PowerShell scripts to calculate total size of 32 largest files. In this case, the customer has over 32 very large PST files, total equaling 42GB. So ...
I am doing a migration right now. The source server is an SBS2008 server that is currently virtualized on a Datto box. (Yay for good backup solutions!). I am migrating the customer to a new Server 2016 Std VM. There is about 600GB of files in a shared folder that I have to move to the new server. I configured DFS to do this 4-5 days ago and so far a little more than 10% of the files have made it over to the new server. As it is Friday tomorrow, I was thinking I ...
Several months after a successful migration from SBS2008 to Server 2016 Std we are now getting an error 4012 on the Domain Controller. There is another Server 2012 that is part of the domain which is not a backup domain controller. The error states: The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the folder with the following local path: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain. This server has been disconnected from other partners for 69 days, which is longer than the time allowed by the MaxOfflineTimeInDays parameter (60). DFS Replication considers the data in this folder to be stale, and this server ...
