I am migrating a Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed to new virtualized hardware. I had planned to abandon the Microsoft remote/VPN services provided by Essentials and use a Watchguard IKEV2 hardware VPN but now the customer would prefer to keep the Microsoft remote/VPN services. Existing servers : Hyper-V Guest Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed is AD, remote services, VPN and file/print server Hyper-V Guest Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed SAGE Accounting SQL server. Hyper-V host Server 2016 Standard and backup server. Planned servers: Hyper-V Guest ...
I was asked to add a new user to our WSE 2016 - a rare event - and could not configure remote access to a workstation - only 2 devices showing in the list of available devices. The Devices list in the WSE Web Access menu lists all but 2 devices as 'Status Unavailable'. Can this data be repaired?
Hi all I am following up on a previous post. I have had to recently rebuild my WSE server and I am at the Anywhere Access setup. I have a valid SSL Cert and can access my server at .uk/remote with no issues but the fact that remote web access needs to be started. Did anyone ever find a solution to using a.uk TLD with WSE? Is there any way to manually configure this part of the setup? I previously ignored my .uk domain and used the .remotewebaccess.com from MS but I have had no end ...
Hi, I currently am running Windows Essentials 2016 with the built in VPN and remote web access feature. My insurance company is saying I don't meet compliance because port 443 is open to the public. How do I make this port or feature secure? I can close the port but then remote access won't work. I have tired creating a rule in Windows Firewall to only allow certain IP addresses but that doesn't seem to work. When I add a remote IP address to allow, it allows all to access again. Any ideas? Thank you.
We have a Server Essentials 2016 that out of the blue stopped allowing Anywhere Access. The users get the message: "Remote Resource Can't be Reached. Check your connection and try again or as your Network Admin for help". The certificate is fine, and I've run the troubleshooter multiple times. Microsoft is useless. I've searched everything I can possibly think of on the server. I'm at my wits end and the client is desperate for this to be fixed. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much!
Have installed a clean install, twice, on a new server. When I run the Anywhere Access wizard it just goes to an error message that The Domain name was not setup on your server. Wait a few minutes and try again. Doesn't matter how long I wait still the same error message.
I recently reconfigured Anywhere Access and Remote Web Access works fine now thanks to your help. I have one problem however, my PCs no longer connect remotely, the network connector icon on the task bar stays grey and says "cannot connect to {Server name}". I tried with both Windows 11 and Windows 10. This used to work with Windows 10. I would really appreciate being able to update my machines to Windows 11 and that they retain that remote connection capability. Thanks in advance and have a great day.
My previously setup domain name no longer works. I tried many times to repair to no avail. When I try to change the domain name I get the following message: A error occurred while setting up your domain name The domain name was not set up for your server. Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again. An unknown error occurred. Please wait a few minutes, and then try again. I am stuck in a loop I can't get out of. I can't get this one to work and cannot get a new one. ...
Is anyone aware of new issues with the remotewebaccess.com DDNS system? We have two customers now that have had new WAN IP addresses assigned that have failed to update in their respective remotewebaccess.com domains. One is using Server Essentials 2012R2 and one is using Server Essentials 2016.
I'm seeing a lot of different errors on my WSE 2016 Server after last windows update: - DFS doesn't work, error "RPC SERVER UNAVAILABle" (translate from Italian) - VPN works only inside my corporate network, from outside it doesn't work. If I try to "repair" from WSE dashboard I get port80 and 443 error (the same error affect use but I solved it some time ago) - Remote site (remote.mydomain.com/remote) works but when I log in it shows a red X and a message: "impossible to access.. contact your administrator" or something similar - ...
Hi I had a working Windows Server Essentials 2016. I have changed Router and after that VPN and Remote web access do not working. I have trying repair but I got that error messege, Domain Service cannot be reached Dynamic DNS cannot be updated What can I do to fix that ;-) Please help
Just completed a migration from SBS 2011 to Server 2016 Standard running the Essential role. Everything went pretty smoothly except for setting up remote web access. Running the remote access wizard from within the dashboard I log in using a Microsoft account but then get "an error occurred while setting up your domain name". In the dashboard log it shows Get live account name failed. Anyone seen this error and know how to resolve it? Thanks
Looked pretty much everywhere for an answer to this. MS say corruption to a DB will be resolved by RRAS Server Reboot. Not So. Tests indicate MGM (whatever that is) has no interfaces attached to it and may well not be installed. VPN & Anywhere Access both work OK No obvious (to me) issues. Some reports say just ignore it, but I would really like to eradicate it - there are enough floating/non real/ erroneous Event Viewer/BPA reports already. Anyone with ideas or solutions - please!
Due to the recent *RemoteWebAccess.com fiasco, I recently changed over to a new certificate (using the "Get a free Let's Encrypt SSL Certificate...) Dynamic DNS, etc.. I believe I followed the process and wizards correctly to import and apply the new certificate for my IIS and VPN. I have removed the old *remotewebaccess.com certificates. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Connector on all Clients. I noticed that at time of reinstall of the Connector, the Server did NOT create a new VPN connection on each of the Clients. Instead I created a new VPN connection on each Client. Everything ...
Current Situation: Windows Server 2016 with Essentials role Two organizations share AD, Internet connection, and remote access via VPN and web access Each organization has their own set of server folders secured by AD group membership. They also have a shared server folder structure available to both organizations. There is a VOIP phone system from Avaya that uses a vendor IP hosted PBX. There is a single Internet connection with 200 Mbps download/11 Mbps upload service. Router is a Ubiquiti Edge Router Max and there are two Ubiquiti network switches (both managed and ...
I downloaded a new GoDaddy SSL certificate for a client's server to replace the expired certificate. I followed the steps outlined on the GoDaddy site for IIS10 (Server 2016 w/Essentials). I'm able to access via remote web to remote.domain.org but the VPN doesn't work now. In RD Gateway Manager, the status is: A server certificate is not yet installed or selected. I selected Properties and tried to select an existing certificate from the RD Gateway server certificates (Local Computer)/Personal Store. However, the certificate I imported into the Intermediate Certification Authorities does not appear as a ...
None of my customers can connect to Server Essentials remotely by remotewebaccess.com Seems to be a Microsoft Nameserver issue. Not good on Microsoft's part as a lot of people are using it at the moment due to Covid. Is there any work-arounds for the time being?
Hi, Do I understand correctly that RDS Gateway does not come with Server 2019 Essentials? If this is correct using Server 2019 Essentials as an upgrade for SBS 2011 appears to be useless, where the Remote Web Workplace is used to access users internal desktops for working remotely. Does it mean that the only solution is to pay more money and have Server 2019 Standard? Ian.
Sir: I've been trying to configure Anywhere Access using the setup wizard in Windows Server Essentials 2016. After I click on the "I want to set up a new domain name" radio button and click the "Next" button twice, the computer proceeds to authenticate my teacherjrv@msn.com account with the Microsoft Authentication account website. It is here that the process fails. A "Something went wrong" dialog is displayed and I am prompted to log in to accounts.live.com through a browser to fix the problem but I can't find anything on this site as to how to proceed. Please ...
I will start a new thread for this. What I have learned so far- If you go through the process of disabling TLS 1.0 and enabling TLS 1.2 using the script from Alexander Hass found here- https://www.hass.de/content/setup-microsoft-windows-or-iis-ssl-perfect-forward-secrecy-and-tls-12 You can get an A+ rating from SSL labs on your WSE public facing server. The following has also happened; Running the Anywhere Access wizard will fail. You have to re-enable TLS 1.0, reboot, then run the wizard to success, then disable TLS 1.0 by running the script again, reboot. Connecting a ...
Hi All, New to servers and the forum. I have my own domain thewillings.uk and I would like to use this as the main default web address on my newly installed WSE2016 server. This would also translate to Remote Web Access (RWA) to be https://rem.thewillings.uk/remote when I setup RWA. However, when i fire up the setup RWA wizard it tells me the TLD is not valid. Is there some way I can use another method to set the domain to thewillings.uk and then continue with the wizard to setup the SSL etc? Surely I ...
I have tried several times to get this to recover including the GP Logonas a service, but I cannot VPN back to functioning.
Since lockdown we have been using the VPN for home workers. Recently it's stopped working alltogether ( i expect due to a microsoft update ) Usually we repair the VPN from the Server essentials dashboard and it starts working again This is now broken, no reboot or repair has worked. The VPN is configured for SSTP. The connection is fine, the error is certificate based which is where i get stuck. The error being as per title .. "The certificte's CN name does not match the passed value" as it is WSE2016 there is no routing ...
Hi I am curious to find out where the SSL VPN is actually configured when using the "Windows Essential Expereince" I looked for RRAS, but can't find it. So what is running this VPN? Alex
We have been using Anywhere Access on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials system for years without problems. We recently had a series of disconnection problems, which were traced back to our ten-year old Comcast gateway/router. Comcast has replaced the old router with a new model (Cisco DPC3939B). Having had some problems in the past with the Essentials Remote Web Access system, I want to be careful and implement the replacement router correctly. First of all, which option should I select in Anywhere Access (new installation or repair)? Can I use the Microsoft supplied domain name that ...
