Following your setup guidelines here: https://server-essentials.com/support/articleid/121# Only using STEP 4... But the DC guest I have is showing that it's pointing to us.pool.ntp.org. Your instructions state, " The output must be ‘VM IC Time Synchronization Provider’." but it doesn't say how to reset it. I've tried a few different things to no luck. How do we reset this to be VM IC Time Synchronization Provider?
Hello there, By chance does anybody here know how to install a Let's Encrypt SSL Certificate via CertifyTheWeb app for Emby Media Server on Windows Server 2016 Standard using the Essentials Dashboard? I followed Mariette's tutorial to setup a et's Encrypt SSL Certificate via CertifyTheWeb app for Access Anywhere (Essentials Dashboard) and that is working beautifully! Thanks again Mariette!! Now I basically want to do the same thing for Emby Media Server so that I have a SSL connection outside/remotely to Emby Media Server. Can I use the same Certificate that I have already? Does anybody know ...
I have a few questions regarding final migration of a Server Essentials to Server 2016 with Essentials Role: I am at the FSMO role migration step...have not started it yet. The server is 2016 Standard and I want to install the Essentials Role -- where do I find this to install as it is not part off the Server Standard. After the DHCP transfer, the guide says to install the new Essentials Connector to all domain computers...this is a lengthy task as I will have to go to every client computer. Does this need ...
Hi, I work for a small company who are still on SBS 2008. Looking to migrate off this to a physical 2016 server which will have 4 virtuals running inc a DC and an On Prem Exchange 2016 setup. Can you confirm that the guides exist to take me through this process both in terms of the SBS to a standalone DC keeping the same namespace and also migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2016? Many thanks Simon
After what seemed a successful, new Windows Server 2016 Standard installation and CertifyTheWeb installed Let's Encrypt SSL Certificate, I have an alert in the Server Manager: Post-deployment Configuration failed: Configuration required for DirectAccess and VPN (RAS) at . I clicked on "Open the Getting Started Wizard" and get the message: "File C:\Windows\system32\RAMgmt.UI.exe is not available because the required management tools are not installed. Use the Add Roles and Features Wizard to install the Remote Server Administration Tools." I went to the Add Roles and Features Wizard, but cannot find Remote Server ...

The first step in the migration from Server 2012 to 2016 says to run a BPA scan and fix the reported issues. The scan results in 28 warnings or errors. I'm not sure if all have to be addressed prior to migration...the task seems daunting. I don't want to skip critical issues but also don't want to spend hours fixing issues that might not be relevant and also risk causing problems if I make a mistake. Here are the items. Can someone give me direction on which ones can be left and which will be important or critical ...

I managed to delete the Namespace from the DFS Manager when breaking a replication job from old server to new.( laptop Mouse pad !) While there is no data lost what impact will this have? Can I create a new name space I have one more server folder to migrate to the new server. Thnks in advance JOE
Hi. I have followed the nice tutorial: https://server-essentials.com/support/articleid/143/get-a-free-lets-encrypt-ssl-certificate-for-access-anywhere-and-automatically-renew-it But when I connect from a computer, the VPN drops just after it's connected. The connection isn't stable. How to solve that? The sertificate is fine, if a go to the remote.DOMAN.com-page Best regards Andreas

I need to be able to log remote access to Server 2016 Std with Essentials Role specifically VPN access, I need to be able to see what user connected, what time and also what IP address they were allocated. If I recall correctly on previous versions of Windows Server there were log files saved in c:\windows\system32\logfiles\rras but this folder doesn't exist on our server. Anyone know how to find this info on 2016? I know I can view event logs to get the user and time they logged in but event logs don't show what IP ...
Hello, I setup Anywhere Access via Windows Server Essentials Dashboard on Windows Server 2016 Standard with a Let's Encrypt SSL Certificate using the Certify SSL/TLS Certificate Management (CertifyTheWeb) following Mariette Knap 's tutorial " Get a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate for Access Anywhere and automatically renew it ," which is absolutely outstanding by the way. Every step was successful, no errors, no problems, just great! However, after no indication of any problem during setup, I can't access my "Anywhere Access" site (remote.mydomain.com). I get the webpage ...
Im runnning the dcpromo to demote my SBS 2011 box but get the error attached saying that it cannot determine ownership of single-master operation roles. https://app.box.com/s/4x02yenjgtq9rwu9zvbntiwf8g2y59gs all the FSMO roles are showing as being on the new Server 2016 correctly. Should I correct this or just move on to remove things via DNS / AD in the final step ?? Thanks Dave
I need to have a temporary ssl certificate for use in migration of sbs2008, specifically for "remote.domain.com" to enable outlook anywhere. Will certify-the-web work with SBS2008?
So I've finally done the migration of the sbs 2008 server to 2016 and for the most part all went well. The only thing I seem to have issues with at the moment is VPN and I'm hoping it's a simple fix albeit I haven't been able to figure it out as yet. I can connect to the VPN just fine and ipconfig shows that I'm getting a valid IP assigned from the server and dns is point to the servers IP. I can access server folders by using the servers IP but cannot browse any resources ...
Anyone faced this? CSR was generated, a SSL certificate (not free) obtained and copy-pasted as per WSE wizard. Server rebooted a few times, access via https:// to server remotewebaccess works. Thanks Ted
Just checking to see if there are any differences I should know when I migrate a Server Essentials 2012 that is not R2 to Server Standard 2016 to which I will apply the Essentials role. Note that the Server 2012 was changed to Standard so we could accommodate additional users but the Essential role is still installed. I want to be sure there are not quirks that will cause problems. NOTE: The new server will run as a VM on the Server 2016 Standard system. Does that present any issues? Lots of questions. Thanks. ...
In chapter 22 of the migration guide, in step 18, the following command is executed in Power Shell: dcdiag /test:dns /dnsall /e /v All shows as good except for this result: Error: Missing SRV record at DNS server 10.11.12.100: _ldap._tcp.476275b5-d6c9-4457-afc2-283139107048.domains._msdcs.innercoretec.local [Error details: 9003 (Type: Win32 - Description: DNS name does not exist.)] Which shows up twice (I have primary DNS as 10.11.12.100 and secondary DNS as 127.0.0.1). I have found a lot of conversations of similar issues online, but none have been helpful so far. Using this command, nltest /domain_trusts /all_trusts ...
Hi, I use https://server/connect to add workgroup PC to a new domain, with all the user profile. Is it possible to use connect with a PC on domain1, to domain2, and get the entire user profile? Hope my english is good enough to be understood! JC
Hi Mariette, What period of time is allowed to keep the SBS box running on the domain before demoting it. Joe
I'm trying to check the Exchange RU version prior to starting the migration from SBS 2008 to Server 2016 but when trying to run the command "Get-Command ExSetup | ForEach {$_.FileVersionInfo}" on the SBS 2008 server we get the following error.. The command could not be retrieved because the ArgumentList parameter can be specified only when retrieving a single cmdlet or script. Anyone else come across this? Mike
As part of an SBS 2011 Essentials to Server 2016 Essentials migration, I'm running the Active Directory checks described in the " Understanding Active Directory Health during an Active Directory migration and tools you can use like repadmin and dcdiag" document. I'm getting an RREG: Warn on the 2016 Server. Scrolling through the tests I found the following two errors. Is this something I should be concerned about, or can I continue with the migration? Thanks. Error: Missing SRV record at DNS server 192.168.1.25 _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.BT.local [Error details: 9003 ...
I am trying to integrate Windows Server 2016 Essentials Experience with Office 365. The "Integrate with Microsoft Office 365" fails with an unknown error. "The Microsoft Cloud services returned an error. Please try again later." I have found in the c:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs\ConfigWizard log the following lines: "General: Initializing... c:\Windows\System32\Essentials\ConfigWizard.exe" followed by "CloudServiceEnvironment: Failed to download cloud service environment file." Anything after these two lines is irrelevant. It failed on the second line. Will the integration even work with a Go Daddy hosted Office 365 instance? Randy
