A few months ago, I completed a customer's 2022 server migration to 2025 utilizing your migration guide to keep the same hostname. The client let me know this week that a workstation is having issues and running very slowly. Looking at the event viewer, I see the error from NetBT complaining that the name SANDTENT could not be registered. The IP 192.168.111.101 is the workstation, and 192.168.111.20 is the server (named PDC). I log into the server and see a similar error in the event logs there as well. SANDTENT has never been a workstation or server name; ...
After upgrading from 2012 R2 Essentials to 2016 Essentials, I noticed my client backup folder was filling up and was not being cleaned. I found the Scheduled Task, but noticed it had not run since the upgrade. I ran it and it kept running for a couple of days. I checked the action and found it was set to run cmd, and that's it. I need to set up this schedule task again, but not sure what the action should be. It has been surprisingly hard to find either a working command line command for cleaning ...
I am hoping to move my client to Server 2025 from 2011 (having done migrations to 2022 for other clients before) but since 2025 doesn't support any AD before 2016 I am trying to figure out how to do this. Would it be possible to migrate to a tempdc running 2022 and then redo the part where all the AD roles, DHCP, DNS etc are then moved from the 2022 to the 2025 server? Has anyone done this before?
The Windows Server Essentials Management Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 19 time(s). A few days ago this started happening. I have scoured the internet but have not found an instance where the problem was with Windows Server 2016 Standard. Thank You Don Resor
Server 2016 Essentials and 2016 Standard. Both have Essentials Dashboard. Windows 11 clients updated automatically to 24H2. Once done all showed Offline under Devices. Checked the clients and they all showed they had connection to server, but Network no longer showed any of the other PCs on the Network. Network files were still available from each client. Searched for a solution and found a number of users having similar issues with Network connection. Only solution was to Roll Back each client to 23H2 and set Group Policy to only allow updates to 23H2. This worked but ...

Hi, My PC is a Windows 11 Home version PC in a Workgroup. I was having problems with the PC freezing so I decided to do an in-place installation of Windows. Everything worked great after the installation except for the Connector. My server is a Windows Server 2012r2 Essentials. I have spent three days researching multiple items but I just can't get Connector to install. As soon as I execute the Connector installation program and check the "I have read and accept the license terms", I get "Installation did not succeed. An unexpected error has occurred." I ...

Hi! I am following your guide " Seamless Migration: Upgrading from Windows Server 2016 to a Virtualized Windows Server 2022 Domain Controller and File Server". Have the Hyper-V host setup without problems as well as setting up the Virtual Switch according to instructions. When installing the first Windows 2022 VM however the networking on the VM doesn't work. In network connections it is reported as "Unidentified network". Using DHCP or setting a static IP makes no difference. (When using DHCP the VM gets a 169-adress. It is possible to ping the VM's ...

Good afternoon. I have a client that uses Server 2016 Essentials for remote access to their computers. Today one of the users was unable to connect to her computer remotely. She is able to sign into the remote.domain.com site, however when she clicks on the icon for her computer, it says "the logon attempt failed" and rejects her password. Seems the same thing happens for the domain admin user when I tested it as well. I am able to connect to her computer via rdp internally, just not through the gateway. I have restarted the server, and ensured ...
I've been unable to get the Server Essentials Role uninstalled. The PowerShell command starts the process and it looks like it's running fine but at some point (the last time was 57%) it hangs for a long period of time with no activity then fails for a timeout stating that the process didn't complete in the time allotted. I'm not seeing any entries in the Application or System log that indicate a problem. I'm not sure where to go from here. Is it possible just to bypass this step? Should I try running it from the Roles removal? ...
I'm looking to purchase 2008 server migration.. but it only says to 2019.. does the also in to 2020?

Struggling to get and maintain the new servers DNS to set up correctly on the clients PC's. When I check the client PC's, they all are set with a manual DNS entry that points to the old server. If I manually reset the setting to Automatic DHCP the system will show the correct DNS settings, however as soon as I reboot or log off/on the settings go back to manual and pointing to the old server. The DHCP server options as well as the Scope options - 006 DNS Servers point to the new server. Please ...
Hi My Anywhere Access certificate are about to expire in one week. I renew it automatic with Certify the Web, but it only renew for the site. The VPN need to be renewed manually. I use to do that every time without problem, but now I'm getting that: When I click on Domain, to import the new cert, I got "Domain name not set to this server" " Unknown error" "Wait a few minutes and try again". This is for days now. What may I do? Thanks.
After raising the existing domain and forest functional levels to 2016 from 2003 I received the attached error while configuring the new domain controller (CCCIAD). The old domain controller (CCCIserver) was running FRS and had not been upgraded to DFS. I started the FRS to DFS upgrade but first checked for journal wrap on the old (CCCIserver) and found journal wrap errors going back to last year. Error below: ***************************************************************************************************************************************************************** The File Replication Service has detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in JRNL_WRAP_ERROR. I am migrating a Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed to new virtualized hardware. I had planned to abandon the Microsoft remote/VPN services provided by Essentials and use a Watchguard IKEV2 hardware VPN but now the customer would prefer to keep the Microsoft remote/VPN services. Existing servers : Hyper-V Guest Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed is AD, remote services, VPN and file/print server Hyper-V Guest Server 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed SAGE Accounting SQL server. Hello, Big migration project (from SBS 2011 to Windows Server 2022 / Exchange Server 2019) is proceeding here, and we are slowly moving user mailboxes over from the Exchange Server 2010 system to our temporary Exchange Server 2016 migration "hop." It's all going relatively well, but I find that certain users (it may be those with particularly large mailboxes, though I'm not certain that's the case) are unable to access their email through desktop Outlook after the move completes. Outlook says it is not connected to the server (though, interestingly, it doesn't pop up a message ...
Hi all, I thought I posted this question yesterday, but it doesn't seem to be present among the posted questions in the community, so I'm trying again. Apologies if this is duplicated and I'm just not seeing it. I have purchased the migration guide and tools for Migration of SBS 2011 and its included Exchange Server to Windows Server 2019 (actually 2022) and Exchange Server 2016, which I understand is the highest version that supports coexistence with (and thus migration from) Exchange Server 2010. But I'm confused about one point made (or seemingly made) by the ...
I was asked to add a new user to our WSE 2016 - a rare event - and could not configure remote access to a workstation - only 2 devices showing in the list of available devices. The Devices list in the WSE Web Access menu lists all but 2 devices as 'Status Unavailable'. Can this data be repaired?
I'm trying to set up remote connection for the first time on my system running windows server 2016 essentials. When I go to myurl/connect I can download the connector software just fine and start the wizard. When the enter server name section comes up, it autofills and, I presume, connects to the server as it then asks for my username and password. After I enter that, it hangs for a bit and then says it can't find the server. Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?
