I have a C:\DFSRoots\Shared Folders that I don't think I need on a newly setup Server 2016 Essentials, how do I remove it?

There is a server share setup by the install called "Shared Folders", now I don't need this share. Under it is a "Company" folder and a "Users" folder that just  points to the Users and Company share, neither of which I actually will use anyway as we have our own that will be replicated on the new server. Now the "Shared Folders" share seems to be shared from "C:\DFSRoots\Shared Folders" but I can't turn that share off as it says I have to remove it from DFS or something like that, first. How do I do that? ...

I have done 10 SBS2011 to 2016 all fine and this is a Rouge upgrade

On new 2016 server installing exchange I get the same error, so I proceeded to just PrepareSchema on the Essentials server so there is no DNS issue and get the same error ?? ( running on Essentials server should not be an issue as it is not installing Exchange Server just preparing AD but cannot comment but getting same error on proposed exchange server )  The Active Directory schema isn't up-to-date, and this user account isn't a member of the 'Schema Admins' and/or 'Enterprise Admins' groups. I have two servers in my domain, a DC (handles Server Essentials) and a File Server.

I have two servers and just finished migrating from SBS 2008 to Server 2016!  I have one question regarding the remote web access.   Since I have a separate file server with all shares for company  related files on that server, not on the DC that controls the Server Essentials experience, is there any way to get Shared Folders to display from the file server instead?  Also can it be restricted by security group.  i.e.:  Upper management gets Executive share, but no one else, Safety group gets the Safety & HR share and a couple of other general shares ...

Visibility set to admin only, should not be visible

I need to migrate SBS 2011 to Wse2019essentials. Email already in office365.

OLD: SBS 2011 physical server with 6 users and 19 workstations NEW: WSE 2019 essentials physical with just the hyper-v role, and then again WSE 2016 essential as guest os that will be the new dc, dns, dhcp and fileserver. I'm at the point that the wse2019essentials is installed as hyper-v host and guest on a new "iron" as we say, and I'm ready to do the migration. I would want to have the same IP, name (and domain) on the new dc The old sbs 2011 is somewhat broken but still in service. The ...

If RDS Gateway is not available in Server 2019 Essentials what is the point of using it in a small business that needs a RWW service

Hi, Do I understand correctly that RDS Gateway does not come with Server 2019 Essentials? If this is correct using Server 2019 Essentials as an upgrade for SBS 2011 appears to be useless, where the Remote Web Workplace is used to access users internal desktops for working remotely. Does it mean that the only solution is to pay more money and have Server 2019 Standard? Ian.

IIS issue - X-Frame-Header not applying?

Hello, We have a client whose server is failing a PCI scan, specifically for click-jacking. I have added the X-Frame-Options header in IIS under the site, and confirmed the changes are being made in the web.config file:                                                  Interestingly, we had previously added that 'Strict-Transport-Security' header at the same time (back in February) to fix a separate issue. That header DOES seem to work. If i go to ssl labs and test the site, that Strict-Transport-Security info shows up ...

Implement group policy wizard fail

migration from sbs2008 to server 2016 standard with essentials experience. All is good on this except the implement group policy wizard fails with "group policy configuration did not succeed" There is one system event id 7023 that in nonsensical to me. I've also looked at the dashboard log but this is also a mystery to me. Are there / what are the likely culprits?  Any direction is appreciated.

Importing shares.reg while RoboCopy is still running.

I'm migrating a 2012 Server to Server 2022. Using the 2012R2 to 2019 Migration Guide; Section 9, Step 9 states to recreate the shares and permissions by importing the shares.reg file. I noticed that the guide didn't distinguish between waiting for robocopy to finish or not. Is it safe to ahead and merge the shares.reg while robocopy is still copying files from the old server to the new? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Installing Exchange Server 2016 on a Server 2016

I am in a situation where we were originally going to migrate from an SBS 2008 server to a Server 2016 domain running Exchange 2016 on a Windows Server 2016 VM. The client desires us to do a "rip and replace" onto a new domain with no migration. I am aware that CU4 is needed to allow Exchange 2016 to be installed on a Windows Server 2016.  I reviewed your tutorial " How to migrate Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011 to a new Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 " and it is very thorough. I ...

IP Address ambiguities within Steps 13, 14 and 15 of SBS Essentials 2011 Migration to WSS 2019 Guide

Step 13 lists a new IP address of 192.168.16.6 for the wss2019 server (Temporary Domain Controller).  I have chosen 192.168.0.101 for my wss2019 TDC; (should be OK) Step 14 lists an IP address of 192.168.16.5 for the DNSCLientServerAddress.  Is that your SBSe's IP Address?   My SBSe IP is 192.168.0.201; (should be OK) Step 15 "ipconfig /all" seems to confirm the above addresses but lists a Gateway of 192.168.16.2   Where does that come from?  Mine is set to 192.168.0.201 (The SBSe's IP).  Should the Gateway be pointing to the Router (192.168.0.1 in my case), same as is found in the SBSe ...

Is DFS needed on a DC after a migration is done?

A recent SBS 2011 migration has been working just until a raid card died.  It's been replaced and the arrays back in order, but the StorageCraft backup is now failing even though it worked find for months.  StorageCraft's answer is that they don't support DFS.  So my question is can DFS be removed/turned off on the DC?   They system is one physical server with three Hyper-V VMs.  DC, Exchange server, and file/app server.

Is FRS Event ID 13567 something to worry about?

I'm preparing to migrate the domain from using FRS to DFS replication for SYSVOL. In checking up on FRS health, I don't see any journal wrap errors (Event ID 13568), but I am getting regular daily events for ID 13567 in the File Replication Service log on the SBS 2011 box. Is it possible to rename the 2016 domain controller during or after a migration?

I've made the mistake of not changing the name that Microsoft gave my Windows 2016 Essentials server and was just wondering if it's possible to change the name either during or after the migration is complete.  The default name would make a better strong password than a host name.

I would like to write a group policy to turn of the "keep me remotely connected" check mark on the essentials tray app. We have a number of laptop users who wok at locations where the VPN connection is not required and yet it always auto connects unless this check mark is manually removed.
