DFSR migration Question

Good morning. I am migrating a Windows server 2008 R2 server to Server 2016 Essentials. I am on section 2 step 14. When I run "dfsrmig /getglobalstate" it is already in an "eliminated" state. Should I just continue or is this something to be concerned with? The output of the commands are below. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. DFSR Migration Question - migrating from a previously migrated server

Good Day - I'm currently at the section 2 #14 - dfsrmig /getglobalstate and it says I'm at 'Eliminated'; however, it should be known here that this is a previously migrated server from 5 years ago going from SBS2003 to SBS2011, so, it probably should say that. Now, I'm asking the question, is it possible to migrate this server again, from SBS2011 to Server 2016 Essentials? Can I get the dfsr state to start again? Thanks Jeff Adzima

dfsrmig /getmigrationstate and SBS 2011 Essentials

I'm using the SBS 2011 Essentials migration guide to deploy a new Windows Server 2019 Standard server.  I deployed the SBS 2011 Essentials box back in 2011 using Microsoft Open licensing ISO and not Dell OEM versions.  Have just started the FRS to DFSR steps by confirming domain level is already at Windows Server 2008 R2 functional level.  My next task was to run dfsrmig /getglobalstate and I learned that the state was already "eliminated" but I'm certain I've never performed the migration from FRS to DFSR in the past.  Running dfsrmig /getmigrationstate also shows the global state as "eliminated" ...

DHCP server migration - new DHCP server name is non-routable IP address, not host name

Migration SBS 2011 Essentials  to 2016 Server Essentials DHCP server migration was successful and is working correctly.  However, DHCP server name on 2016 Server is "169.254.229.220" instead of server name (eg server2016.contoso.local).  See attached screen shot.  I can't see any way to change the name.

Disable Folder Redirection for specific Users - Windows Server Essentials

Is there a quick and reliable way to disable the Folder Redirection for specific Users while the WSE Group Policy Folder Redirection is active and to keep the Files local for Users where the Files have already been redirected? We want to disable the Redirection for specific Users in a branch office which otherwise sync the data via VPN which is incredibly slow.

DNS error 4013 SBS to SVR2016 migration issue , please help!!!

Hi I have a customer that has a SBS2011 server - We have already moved their email to 365 so its just a case of migrating their server to a more modern server. The SBS2011 server is a VM on a Hyper V host along with another server (Server 2016 standard) currently just a member server sharing some Sage data. The SBS is called SERVER1 and the second member server is called SERVER2. Given SERVER2 was already running with lots of ram and HDD space I thought it would be easy to migrate the SBS ...

DNS Records

Hello All:   I recently completed changing my domain name from one name to another. After finishing the process, I ran the dcdiag command and obtained a dcdiag.txt file. I need someone to peruse this dcdiag file and tell me how to correct the errors that I am receiving when I run the command. FYI, the new domain name is a Microsoft domain, stoneandstone1.com and not the personal/business domain, stone-and-stone.com that I was using before. The 24.92.226.11 & 12 are my internet provider's IP addresses. I am wondering if that has something to do with the ...

Do I have to uninstall Exchange 2010?

I am migrating from SBS 2011 to Windows server 2016 Standard with the Essentials role, and a separate 2016 Exchange server using your guide. We've been running the Exchange 2016 for six months no and I am working through retiring the SBS 2011 box. I have another guide from you detailing how to remove exchange server 2010 from the SBS box but I don't know when to do this or if I even need to? I'm at step 20 of the SBS Migration guide, moving the certificate from the old server to the new one.

Does Migrating from 2012 R2 essentials to 2016 essentials Preserve client backups?

Hello, I'm planning to migrate from Server 2012 R2 Essentials to Server 2016 Essentials.  The centralized client Backups and Shares are the primary purpose of this server but have been unable to get any clear answer on these questions: 1. We have a few years of client backups on the server.  Will the client backups be migrated and still be usable or do we simply lose all those? 2. Currently on my Windows 8.1 pro PCs the 2012 R2 client connector Launchpad is automatically signed in and makes shares available when I boot/log into these PCs.  No need ...

Does the Exchange 2016 migration guide apply to Windows Server 2016 Standard.

Don't need WSUS on SBS 2011 - options?

I have a SBS 2011 server with a WSUS folder that has grown to 127GB.  I would like to either remove or disable WSUS and remove the database and update files. Once I accomplish the above, I will change the default Group Policy to no longer have stations get their updates from WSUS. What are my options for accomplishing this without breaking anything?  I have read that simply uninstalling WSUS breaks the SBS Console.

Drive Encryption-Bitlocker

We need to encrypt our Windows Server 2016 Essentials and the backup drives. I have never encrypted any drives, so I don't want to make a mistake and make our server unusable. I know that Windows has Bitlocker built-in, but since I haven't used it before, I have a couple of questions. Can you encrypt a Windows Server 2016 Essentials after it has already been set up? What about the backup drives? How do you set them to be encrypted?
