SBS2011 migrated to Essentials 2019 mapping drives, no access to netlogon other stuff..

All, Just finished the migration, demoted the SBS2011 and turned off.  However the users are still in the old SBS groups and computer areas on the new server.  And I joined a 2 NEW laptops to the domain and the users do not have access to the netlogon folder to run the script. When mapping a drive manually, it will NOT reconnect until the user re-authenticates.  Once user types in user ID and pass, the mapped drive appears again.  Another issue I ran into is the security group "Authenticated Users" is missing and when I ...

Exchange 2010 SP3 Update Rollup Error

No matter which rollup I try to install, I receive an error code: 2771 saying that there was an unexpected error.  What am I missing?  I have looked back through everything I can think of.  (This server was not updated regularly by the previous managers, so I am trying to catch up and get it migrated) . Any suggestions?  I need to get this to the right version so I can proceed.  Thanks!

migration order

I goes thru all points of SBS2011 migration to WS2016 and I didn't find steps when should I install Hyper-V and second instance of WS2016 and what order Exchange migration should be done. I see just uninstalling Exchange 2010. Would you send plan point by point including global plan or order to migrate WS2008R2 and Exchange from SBS20011?

Migrate FRS to DFSR replication in SBS 2011

Finally getting started on my migration ! Up at step 3: Migrate FRS to DFSR replication in SBS 2011 (going to Win2016), just entered command "dfsrmig /getglobalstate" Instead of getting a response like the one in the guide (DFSR migration has not been initialized) I get this : Current DFSR global state: 'Start' Succeeded.   Everything before in step 3 went exactly as in the guide.  Was Win2003Forest, now Win2008R2... identical Now, in the past, I've configured DFSR for file replication between servers... could this have an impact on the message I'm ...

First thing to do is run BPA. It is ok to live unsolved warnings? I have several connected to Website log directory (to big), MaxMessageSize and SharePoint configuration. Should I fix all of it before migration start?

Migrating SBS 2011 Exchange to Office 365 question

We're looking at CodeTwo to handle our Exchange 2010 to Office 365 email migration. How will this impact our migration as we go through the migration guide? Also, I'm assuming that the SBS 2011 Migration Kit + Office 365 DIY is still the right guide to get? Thank you

SBS2011 migration to new 2016 machines

Im using SBS2011 Premium version. One server is works as main server + Exchange, second is SQL and DC backup. I already purchased new machine and two WS 2016 licenses + Exchange 2016. Im gong to use new machine to migrate SBS2011 to WS2016 and Exchange2016. On second server machine with SQL after migration Im going to install from scratch WS 2016 and SQL Express.  I have no experience in virtualization. From what point of installation your guide starts? Should I have installed WS 2016 first or your guide cover installation and virtualization of server as well?

SBS 2011 RWW Remote Desktop type thing for Server 2019

Not even sure how to properly frame the question in the title bar.  Lol Trying to decipher the Server 2019 RDS info from the web is confusing me.  What I am finding seems to be discussing setting up Virtual Desktops as a Terminal Server replacement.  And I can not find a helpful Step by Step either.  I believe it is no longer a Web Page, but a RDP file I configure and give to each user? Currently I have 5 users that use the RWW feature of SBS 2011 to connect to their office computers and ...

Remove a computer from WSE 2012 R2 that has already been removed from AD Users and Computers

I can't seem to remove one computer from the Dashboard. It just gives me an error when I try. The computer is long gone and the computer account has been removed from AD, but I haven't found a way to remove it from the console. I think I've successfully removed the backup for that system already using a script you have on this site.  Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sbs2011 PDC / DC Time Sync

HI, In SBS2011 to Server 2016 Migration Guide, in Section 4, you make a point of the Time synchronization between the PDC and the other DC members. At Section 4, we just have the old SBS2011 machine, and currently my SBS2011 box is synchronizing to an external NTP server, however you are suggesting that Before the New server 2016 is live, that the SBS2011 is synchronizing to (w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier) ie the PDC ( which does not yet exist) , and also later on in the chapters I cant obviously see where the New server 2016 ...

Windows Server 2012 Essentials and Office 365 integration fails

Hi, our organization has a server that runs on Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Earlier, I had a wrong domain associated with the Office 365 account in the dashboard. I removed the other domain and tried to connect the correct domain. Although initially, I could remove the domain, when I wanted to connect the new/current domain, it was trying to connect the old one. I once again tried to disable the Office 365 integration and I keep getting this message: There was a Problem Uninstalling the Office 365 Integration Module An unknown error ...

Powershell script deployed via GPO to fix Windows 10 Update 1903 and the Essentials Connector

OK - so we've been bit by the 1903 update that all of our customers Essentials Connectors (on 2016 servers) stopped working. I've found a fix that I'm happy with that in our testing seems to fix it 100% of the time (you can read up on it here:  https://sbsland.me/2019/05/24/windows-10-update-1903-und-der-essentials-connector-fix/  sorry that it's in German - but you can also download his scripts here as well). SBS2008 to Essentials 2016 - 'Connection-specific DNS Suffix' Blank and VPN not working

Hi, I have migrated from SBS2008 to Essentials 2016 and have followed all of the instructions apart from setting the DHCP to run off the Router (Draytek 2830) but the router is now pointing the DNS back to the new 2016 server. I now have two main problems: 1) The "Connection-specific DNS Suffix" is blank when doing IPconfig /all even when on the server. I have cleaned up the DNS settings as per the instructions but has not made any differences. I have also run the powershell checks and everything tallies up ok. 2) ...

SBS2011 migration to existing Win2016Std DC servers already in service (plus new Win2016Std server for Exchange 2016)

Looking at my migration guide (#1 to #4) for SBS2011 to Win2016Std, and before I start everything I wanted to know if any of these steps should be performed on any other DC servers already on the domain or just on the SBS for the time being ? Currently have two Win2016Std file servers that are domain controllers already, one of them I will be transferring the FSMO roles onto. Can't wait to get started !

Are we required to install all Exchange 2010 latest SP & RU for migration to Server 2016 Std if emails have already been migrated to Office 365?

Hi We are performing a SBS2011 > Server 2016 Std migration Emails have already been migrated a while ago to Office 365. We will never use an on-premise Exchange 20xx. The migration guide (https://server-essentials.com/support/migrate-sbs-2011-to-windows-server-2016-standard-or-datacenter) asks to install all SP & RU to bring the Exchange server to the latest Service Pack & Update Rollup Are we required to install all Exchange 2010 latest SP & RU in this case before migrating the other parts of Windows? Single Client Computer Suddenly Cannot Connect to Remote Web Access System

We manage a law firm's computer network.  The server operating system is Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2.  We installed the new network in 2015, and overall it has worked very well. One of the senior partners at the firm lives a long distance from the office.  As a result, he relies on the Remote Web Access (Anywhere Access) to work remotely.  His desktop computer has Windows 10 and he uses Google Chrome as his primary web browser. Until recently, the RWA system has worked very well for him.  Recently, though, he has been unable to connect ...

Cleaning up user attributes after migration to O365

When running Exchange Server on premise, whether SBS or regular Exchange, a lot of entries are left in each user account's attributes. If you open ADUC, open a property page for a user, then click on the Attribute Editor tab, there are a lot of attributes which are related to the local Exchange server. As an example, the following attributes are among those that get populated for Exchange: homeMDB homeMTA legacyExchangeDN msExchHomeServer msExchMailboxGuid proxyAddresses targetAddess and several more. BPA: DNS Loopback Address, But Not as First Entry

I'm in the process of tidying up after a migration, I ran BPA on the only DC and received the above error. DNS is on the adapter has only a primary entry of 127.0.0.1 and no secondary.  Forwarders are set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. The other servers (Exchange and RDS) point to the DC and have no secondaries. I'm wondering if this setup is okay?

Run Remote Access from Inside the Network

Hello, As I recall, there is a way to run Remote Web Access from a workstation *inside* the Essentials network.  From outside the network, the web browser command is "https://domain-name.remotewebaccess.com" (using the free Microsoft domain).  I believe that the web browser command to access RWA from a machine *within* the network was slightly different (server name had to be included?).   If anyone can assist my ebbing memory with this, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks. Exchange 2016 second IP address?

I have a client who hosts their own Exchange 2016 server. They have redundant ISPs (ISP1, ISP2) with static IP address, and DNS MX records for each ISP mail server ISP (mail.domain.com, mail2.domain.com). A test of the ISP redundancy shows browser traffic works fine, but email does not flow when ISP1 is disconnected. The client’s firewall is set up to receive email on ISP1 with the published mail.domain.com IP address. I think I need to add a second server object to the firewall ...
