https://server-essentials.com/support/get-a-free-lets-encrypt-certificate-anywhere-and-automatically-renew-it Honest, I have read it numerous times...lol Step 18 passes But validation does not complete. Marriette, where was that log in step 22 ? 1. http://remote.domain.com/ - IIS page 2. https://remote.domain.com/remote - I get security issue and when click continue I get RWA is off which I presume is expected as anywhere access has not completed So ports and forwarded to server are working. n.b Test server in a Hyper VM, DNS for remote.domain.com returns correct IP
I'm currently running WSE 2016 + Server 2016 Standard & Exchange 2016, all three running in evaluation mode at the moment. Evaluation time is running down and I must activate what I have or migrate to 2019 or later. I'm not ready, at this point to migrate, so I'm looking for a way to activate what I have. Can I buy retail versions of 2019 WSE, Server Standard and Exchange and use downgrade rights to activate my current 2016 evaluations? Do I need 2016 product keys or can I use the 2019 keys. Or, is there a ...
Is there a straightforward way to print to a local printer when connected remotely to an Essentials server (or workstation) via Remote Web Access (or Anywhere Access)? Thanks very much.
Hi, I'm migrating a 2003 Standard server to 2016 Essentials and following the SBS 2003 guide. I'm at the point asking to disable "log on as a service" and delete logon scripts. Do I need to do these for Server 2003 Standard? We are leaving the current server running for a few weeks so we can migrate a database app later. I need to keep some logon scripts...I think...for drive mapping until I get things migrated...hopefully, the main migration today. Thanks. Art
We have migrated all user mailboxes to a new server on a different public IP (2010 at the office, and 2016 at the DC), and we have a new FQDN for 2016. Do I just create a new send connector for 2016 with the new fqdn in the scoping dialog? I didn't see anything about send connectors in the migration guide? Thanks, David
Hi Mariette, I have 4 new messages in a Relay queue on Exchange 2016, and the properties of these messages all show the recipients as follows. This is for email sent to support@digivie.com, which is a mail-enabled Public Folder, and it looks like this PF is still getting pointed back to our Exchange 2010. Below are the properties of one of the messages. I _am_ able to successfully send to support@digivie.com internally, so it appears only messages that come in from an external source are getting stuck in the queue that points back to the ...
Hello! I migrated my public folders from Exchange 2010 to 2016 several weeks ago. We have recently realized that we have not been receiving emails at those public folders since the move. I just sent a test email from my mailbox to one of the public folders. The email never appeared in the public folder, and I did not get an NDR in my mailbox reporting trouble of any kind. I have been trying to understand how message tracking works in Exchange 2016 so I can get to the bottom of what's happening, but I haven't ...
SBS2011 to WS2016 migrating covers migration of mapped drives. It looks that it is just rights migration, what about moving files from SBS2100 users shared folders to WS2016 shared folders? Should it be done manually?
I gave one desktop, that was connected just fine, the 'opportunity' to upgrade to v2004 when the May update was offered. This seems to be another of those complete OS rebuilds that takes multi-gig downloads and hours to install. The Essentials Client connector had to be re-installed after it finally came back to life practically taking all night.
Just wanting to confirm really that if you have installed KB5000871 then you do not need to run the mitigations scripts from https://github.com/microsoft/CSS-Exchange/tree/main/Security Also most of the web reports (sharing the same info) state to try "restricting untrusted connections to exchange". Nowhere can I find how you would restrict untrusted connections (as I have only a single static IP, I'm using a single Exchange Server 2016, which is accessed via a Windows Server via the Web Rewrite as per the migrate documents on this site). If you have various users coming in from home networks ...
Hello, I've made a SBS 2008 to Windows 2016 server migration following the guide: How to migrate from SBS 2008 to Windows Server 2016 (Essentials) . I didn't migrate exchange 2007. Is there a way to proceed? Will building a new Windows 2012 server for SBS/exchange2017 --> win2012/exchange2013 migration work having already migrate the domain controller to 2016? Thank you for your advice Regards, Nicolas
I am migrating of ES2010 to ES2016 during a migration of SBS2011 to Server 2016. I would like to know if I can start and finish the migration of Exchange Server before I do any of the SBS migration. I will be migrating to a virtual server running Exchange 2016. If so does it change any of the directions in your instructions? Thanks, Rick Cowperthwaite
Hello everybody, We want to do the migration more or less in the current operation, of course with one or the other service interruption. Now it is a bit difficult for me to find out at which points we have to warn our users that it might come to failures. Could someone show me these points? Thank you very much
The migration guide doesn't mention when or how to migrate files, including user's Redirected Folders.
I only have three shares that have data that need moving. I can follow with using Robocopy to move them, which has been completed. However the end user wants the shares to be named differently and mapped as different Drive letters. Can I skip over the rest of this and just create fresh shares on the destination server? Thanks, Greg
My current setup is running under VMware ESXi 6.0 - SBS 2011 - PDC, Web, DNS, Exchange Windows 2012R2 - DC, DNS. With Azure AD sync for users to 365 for SSO and Office These are on a DDNS domain that I don't own as static IPs weren't easily back then in my area. I also use a separate email server (on my web server host) that receives emails and forwards to my Exch server - It receives for 3 domains I own forwards to appropriate accounts on the DDNS ...
Finally getting started on my migration ! Up at step 3: Migrate FRS to DFSR replication in SBS 2011 (going to Win2016), just entered command "dfsrmig /getglobalstate" Instead of getting a response like the one in the guide (DFSR migration has not been initialized) I get this : Current DFSR global state: 'Start' Succeeded. Everything before in step 3 went exactly as in the guide. Was Win2003Forest, now Win2008R2... identical Now, in the past, I've configured DFSR for file replication between servers... could this have an impact on the message I'm ...
Hi, We need to move from SBS 2008 to 2016, and Exchange to 2019. We have begun migration with new DC. Now we need to migrate Exchange. This is s small company, with les than 10 mailboxes. So my idea is to export mailboxes to PST, and reimport them in Exchange 2019. Much more easy. Can I prepare new server Exchange 2019 before beginning export PST, or can I install part ofr Exchange 2019 first? Do you have a guide about this kind of migration? Thanks JC
Do you have a procedure to migrate SBS 2011 Public Folders to Exchange 365 Online.
Hi There, we are going to migrate SBS 2011 Std to Server 2016 Std and exchange server 2010 to exchange server 2016. So, we set up two servers 2016 std, one for DC and the other one for exchange 2016. Which documents should I refer to? When can i migrate exchange server? in which step? Many Thanks Charlie
Hi there and thanks for sharing your knowledge. So as the title indicates above I'm moving from SBS (unfortunately due to Microsoft lowering the user limit) to Server 2016 (and going to include the Essential Experience role) Migrate SBS 2011 to Windows Server 2016 Essentials A secondary part is moving Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 Migrate Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011 to a new Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 . I have a 40 user environment and I'm trying to do this without interrupting the users and/or dedicating an entire three ...
So we have an SBS 2008 server and want to migrate to Server 2016 but would prefer to keep the existing server name in order to avoid issues where users have desktop shortcuts to shared folders or they've manually created mapped drives. Updating the mapped drives via GPO isn't really possible as we don't know what mapped drives each user may have manually created. So as per one of my earlier questions I'm thinking of adding another 'hop' to the final server by migrating from SBS 2008 to Server 2016 (new server name), then demoting and removing ...
I have a law firm client that wants to upgrade their server hardware running Server 2012 R2 w/Essentials. Should I look at 2019 since it drops Essentials or Server 2016 w/Essentials? Do you have guides for this migration? They don't do remote but they do like the Essentials server dashboard. Thanks. --Art
Hi all, I thought I posted this question yesterday, but it doesn't seem to be present among the posted questions in the community, so I'm trying again. Apologies if this is duplicated and I'm just not seeing it. I have purchased the migration guide and tools for Migration of SBS 2011 and its included Exchange Server to Windows Server 2019 (actually 2022) and Exchange Server 2016, which I understand is the highest version that supports coexistence with (and thus migration from) Exchange Server 2010. But I'm confused about one point made (or seemingly made) by the ...
Can I used the instructions from sbs2011 migration of files and folders when referring to migration files and folders from windows 2008r2 foundation Thanks
