I recently completed an SBS 2011 Standard to Server 2019 Hyper-V/Exchange 365 migration using the SBS Essentials guide. All went well with no problems except that after a reboot of the Hyper-V host network adapters on the Hyper-V host and guest servers is switching to "Private" from "Domain". This causes login problems to the file/print and application guest servers. Hyper-V setup is: IT-HYV Hyper-V Host IT-AD ASD domain controller IT-Landtech application server IT- Poweredge1500 file/print server All servers are joined to the domain. DNS is setup ...
Hi, I've inherited an Ex2007 server and looking to upgrade it to an interim Ex2013 then onwards to Ex2019 - but it's only updated to SP3 Rollup 21. Microsoft have removed the page with the download for rollup 23 https://support.microsoft.com/KB/4011325 and this is a requirement I believe for upgrading to Ex2913 Does anyone have knowledge of a dowload location for this update? Thanks
Hello All I have a Win SBS 2011 server and Exchange has been moved to MS 365 so I do not have to worry about moving Exchange from the SBS 2011 to the 2019 server. Should I go thru a migration or just start fresh on the 2019 server . If migration path is the choice what would be the best process to go about this when migrating FSMO roles Active Directory Domain Services DNS DHCP ...
My GoDaddy SSL cert for a 2012r2 Essentials server is coming up for renewal. I came across your great tutorials on using Let's Encrypt. My question: is there anything I need to consider or do (or un-do) with the current GoDaddy SSL set up on the server before proceeding with Let's Encrypt and Certify the Web app setup? Thanks!
Hi all, Can somebody please tell me how to get a Windows 10 machines reconnected to Windows Server 2016 Essentials Dashboard (connector software) to continue backups after updating to v2004 or v20H2? All my Windows 10 machines no longer backup or are connected to the server after updating. Everything still works fine on any machine still on v1909 or older. I download and run the connector software, it finds the server, I enter network administrator credentials, it identifies the machine it's going to "replace", and it starts "configuring", but after several seconds the window just disappears ...
Just completed a migration from SBS 2011 to Server 2016 Standard running the Essential role. Everything went pretty smoothly except for setting up remote web access. Running the remote access wizard from within the dashboard I log in using a Microsoft account but then get "an error occurred while setting up your domain name". In the dashboard log it shows Get live account name failed. Anyone seen this error and know how to resolve it? Thanks

Hello, I have a Microsoft 365 with 2 external domains 1) a.de 2) b.de. A.de is already set up in the essentials via dashboard and b.de is supposed to work. Is that possible? Both domains are in the same MS 365 admin account

Hello, I'm preparing to migrate SBS 2011 Standard to Windows Server 2019. The SBS 2011 server I'm preparing for migration doesn't have "Windows Server Solutions Best Practices Analyzer 1.0" installed. And I cannot find a valid link to download it, neither on Microsoft downloads or anywhere else. All links lead to 404 on Microsoft sites. Could someone help me find that Installer ? Kind Regards, Miguel.
Since Essentials Role no longer exists as an optional add-on for Windows Server 2019 for syncing AD up to Office 365 (Azure AD), we're forced to install and configure the Azure AD Connector. One of the major drawbacks I'm finding is that we can no longer easily administer certain objects as they're now syncing between the local AD and the Azure AD. One that I find I use quite often is the option for setting up email aliases. I have found the way to do this in the local AD (adding the proxyAddresses under Attribute Editor in the ...
Hi there. Can someone help me please? I have multiple fresh built Windows 2016 Essentials server that cannot integrate with 365 via the Dashboard wizard. See two screen shots attached. Existing 2016 essentials production servers that were integrated with 365 before this issue started. Continue to work normally. There was a recent issue with Anywhere access not working for all Windows 2016 Essentials server. The fix outlined in the link below does not fix the 365 integration issue. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/318584/are-the-problems-with-remotewebaccesscom-domain-an.html Please can you help me? Kind regards.
The Windows Server Essentials 2016 to Windows 2019 migration guide says (under step 14), "...we will use Windows Admin Center to integrate your server with Azure and Office 365", however, I cannot find any documentation on how this is accomplished. I even reached out to Microsoft and the tech I spoke with was unsure of anyway using Windows Admin Center to integrate your local AD to Azure/Office 365). Is this possible? If so, can you write a tutorial on how to do it, please? Thank you.
Hi All, trying to get PCI compliant at a client.. Great success here Ask a question > Connector software not working after locked down server for PCI Compliance (server-essentials.com) BUT, now credit card provider scan has failed because it found exchange server self cert ( see attached ) How would I overcome this? Delete the self cert or just untick iis and smtp services . Appreciate any guidance. Thanks Bill
Thanks for your most helpful article “ How to setup RDS Gateway as a replacement for ‘Access Anywhere’ or 'Remote Web Workplace' ”. That is done and operational on our Windows Server Essentials 2016. What is the best way of hiding the website that appears at https://domain/remote so that only our saved RDP files can be used to connect? Also, as our remote access is usually from known and static IPs, I setup a rule in our Opnsense firewall that port forwards to our WSE2016 server and only allows WAN connections to 443 from known ...
Hello I'm using the guide: How to migrate from SBS 2011 to Windows Server 2016 (Essentials) I'm at the Step: Enable folder redirection on the Windows Server 2016 Essentials and clean up old SBS 2011 group policies Getting to know the new Dashboard, I noticed all my users showed up, but none of the Groups. On the SBS 2011 server Dashboard, there are both E -Mail Distribution Groups and Security Groups listed. The Security Groups are basically used to control who has access to which Shared Folders. None of these Groups Appear on ...
I'm finishing up migration from Server 2012 R2 w/out Essentials to Server 2019 w/Essentials. When trying to back up the 2012 R2 CA I find that was never installed on the old server so there is no CA to migrate. Can I just install CA on the 2019 server and create a self-generated CA certificate? If so, is there a link to a step-by-step guide to do this? Thank you. --Art
Hi, I got stuck with the migration process not beeing able to connect the migration endpoint. Could you help? Tried your hint with deleting and reestablishing Outlook Anywhere from the exchange console, but it did not help. Thanks in advance!
I am at section 16. Migrate the Certificate Authority on the 2012 Essentials to 2019 Guide. I have run the backup to the ADCSBackup directory and copied it to the new server. I have encountered a problem at step 16.34 When restoring I receive the following message. --------------------------- Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services --------------------------- The expected data does not exist in this directory. Please choose a different directory. The directory name is invalid. 0x8007010b (WIN32/HTTP: 267 ERROR_DIRECTORY) --------------------------- OK --------------------------- There are no contents in the DataBase directory so is ...
As described in your guide the old Essentials server has a separate volume that contains the users redirected folders and the other ServerFolders that contains the company share. I'm migrating from a physical host to a hyper-v VM and use ShadowProtect so can I just restore the data volume to a VHDX file that can be mounted as the same drive letter on the new host. So following your guide to recreate the shares and change the group policy to look at the shares on the new server should be just a case of changing the hostname? Does ...

The PS script fails as it appears the migration role is not available on the older 2016 ess server. Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Windows.ServerManager.Migration Having a poke around the old server looking for it does not show up anywhere. Running the PS script locally on the old server also fails . Is it part of 2016 Ess? Can it be downloaded anywhere?
