Nearing the end of migration and running into an error trying to install the Windows Server Migration feature on the old 2016 server. Install went fine on the new server. Attaching images of the error. Is there a way around this without too much work?
I would like to write a group policy to turn of the "keep me remotely connected" check mark on the essentials tray app. We have a number of laptop users who wok at locations where the VPN connection is not required and yet it always auto connects unless this check mark is manually removed. If anyone knows where in the registry or elsewhere this value is saved I would be very grateful. Thanks Geoff
Hello, I need to migrate a Windows Server 2012R2 Domain + Exchange 2016 to Windows Server 2019 + Exchange 2019. Is there a guide that covers this? Many thanks!
Hi All: I have Windows Server 2012 R2 Essential installed on my system. When I try to back up my server I get the following error message, you can see from the screenshot that the service is enabled, however, the next screen shot is the error message. Can someone tell me how to fix this so that I can backup my server. I have also attached a copy of the event logs, I am hoping that someone can peruse this log and tell me how to fix the errors that I am getting on Schannel ...
I have an old(!) sbs2008 system I'm trying to migrate but cant get a systemstate backup as "system writer" is missing I have been through all the KB articles I can find and other workarounds and still system writer refuses to show up and hence systemstate backup fails 2 questions now i guess Anyone have any obscure causes of this issue I may have yet to try? Do I just risk it and continue on without a systemstate backup................ Thanks in advance! Tim
My WSE2016 Dashboard SERVICES Microsoft Cloud Services Intergration swirling please see picture. I have check a few of my other customers dashbards and they are all swirling is this an update that has killed the function or is it because microsoft intergration is down ?
In checking over the configuration of my Exchange 2016 server I don't see any send connector on the 2016 server. The only send connector is on the 2011 server. I can't believe that this is correct. At what step in the migration should the send connector have been created? Thanks Bruce
We have a server running 2016 Standard with Essentials role installed. VPN/Remote access was previously working fine when the server was migrated from SBS 2011 a few months ago. Just set up a new laptop on the network and found that VPN no longer works. At first users were able to connect but couldn't access any resources. I've tried various fixes, removed anywhere access and reconfigured it but still having issues, infact users can no longer connect and get error stating 'you might need to change the network settings for this connection'. On the server itself, ...
I have a problem with an Exchange 2019 server that is an open relay. What is the best way to shut down the open relay. I have compared the Recieve connectors against an Exchange server that is not an open relay but I cant see any diffrence.
Hi on our production email server we're no longer receiving email from certain domains. After I verified our certificates in EAC, one of them shows this error: "Revocation check failed". How to safely fix this problem by renewing the failed certificate ? Thanks in advance
I have reset a laptop running Windows 10 because I did not have a suitable backup to recover from. When trying to install the Client Connector, it is able to find the server, and it accepts my credentials, but always fails with "The server is unavailable" Looking at the client log, there is a SSL issue due to the client connecting using an address not configured in the certificate, but it then uses http to continue. The setup seems to fail when trying to get the client(?) machine status: [9628] 210917.145315.3038: ClientSetup: Validating User ...
I'm getting an error when attempting to run Remove-WssConfigurationData –Force to remove the Essentials Experience role from my Server 2012 Essentials server. Error is similar to the one when trying to backup the CA on the same server with PS. I haven't attempted to run the 2nd command for this task with Remove-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole. This server didn't have any Office365 or Exchange integration setup. All client PC connectors have been removed and the client PC backups were also removed. Its is possible that Server 2012 Essentials has a different cmdlet to remove the Wss Configuration Data? This server is not ...
Hi everyone, Emails are being sent right now to Microsoft 365 from my SBS 2008 server via cutoff migration...Since mailbox passwords are not synced with 365, what passwords are given to each mailbox? And if I install Azure AD Sync on my new 2019 box, will it assign my domain users passwords back to their new 365 mailboxes ? Other things that come to mind : if mailboxes have multiple email addresses, are these also migrated? And autocomplete from each user, it that migrated also ? Every user is going to freak if they lose their autocomplete! ...

Is anything in the migration from Exchange 2010 to a GCC High O365 tenant different?
Beginning on August 31, both servers began to intermittently report "Computer Monitoring Errors." From what we have been able to determine so far, it appears that the fwlink hardcoded within the Essentials source code: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=785361 is now being redirected within the Microsoft backend to Microsoft Bing: www.bing.com/?ref=go&linkid=0 As a result, the servers are attempting to download the Bing HTML (resulting in gibberish or nil) instead of the expected actual "OnlineServicesConfigFile-US.xml" file which is then failing and causing the error. (file is stored on server at: ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows Server/Data/Cloud) Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone know where/how to ...
Hi, all. Brand new to the site and looking for assistance on connecting a Mac Book Pro running Big Sur (11.5.2) to a server that's running Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2. I've followed the steps set out on this page: https://server-essentials.com/support/connecting-a-mac-with-os-x-109-mavericks-to-your-windows-server-2012-r2-essentials and through the Mac Finder (Go... Connect to server..). Neither method is working. Instead of landing on the blue Microsoft page, I'm receiving an error that the server isn't available. Note: These steps do work on a Mac Air that's running 10.14.6 Also, the mac pro is able to "see" the server on the network. So if I ...
Recently 2 Sever Essential 2016 servers show in the daily report "Windows Server Essentials Storage Service" as not running. I can restart the service but it seems to stop again after 15-20 minutes. Everything including backup appears to be working so I put resolving on the 'back burner'.....till today. I tried to add a another backup drive using the dashboard but as soon as I click on the "click to set up server backup" link, a popup appears; "An error occurred while configuring the backup policy. Open the health monitoring tab to see if there are any alerts that ...
My public folder migration finished. It had errors, but there really isn't much in the public folders that we care about so I re-ran it from the gui and set the error threshold to 50. It finished with an error in just one folder that we really don't care about. Logs are attached. Is it ok to finish the process using step 21 from your documentation or do I need a totally clean run first. Bruce

Hi everyone, First step in my SBS 2008 migration gives me two critical issues in the Best Practices Analyzer The host (A) resource record points to the incorrect IP address 192.168.0.2192.168.0.57. The record should point to 192.168.0.2. My ipconfig/all on the SBS: Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : SERVER Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : domain.local Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown ...
Step 13 lists a new IP address of 192.168.16.6 for the wss2019 server (Temporary Domain Controller). I have chosen 192.168.0.101 for my wss2019 TDC; (should be OK) Step 14 lists an IP address of 192.168.16.5 for the DNSCLientServerAddress. Is that your SBSe's IP Address? My SBSe IP is 192.168.0.201; (should be OK) Step 15 "ipconfig /all" seems to confirm the above addresses but lists a Gateway of 192.168.16.2 Where does that come from? Mine is set to 192.168.0.201 (The SBSe's IP). Should the Gateway be pointing to the Router (192.168.0.1 in my case), same as is found in the SBSe ...
Working with the SBS 2011 Std - > Windows 2019 Essentials migration documentation. in Chapter 17, I demoted the old server (the old server did spend 10 - 15 min on the 'checking if active directory domain services binaries are installed' screen). Rebooted then in the elevated PS window, the import-module servermanager command which was quick, then the Remove-WindowsFeature ADDS-Domain-Controller,DNS That was 4? hours ago. The cursor keeps blinking on the next line. The machine is NOT frozen - I can do other things with it. Some things I noticed: in task ...
I am not finding the correct BPA tool on the target SBSe 2011 server being migrated and it seems to be no longer available as a download at Microsoft. Please advise.
