Cannot start Routing and Remote Access and Remote Desktop Gateway services on same server at the same time

Hi there. can you help me please? I've built a single Windows 2022 Standard server with a single nic. I have installed and setup 'Routing and remote access' with SSTP VPN using a free 'lets encrypt/certify the web' SSL. I have installed and setup 'Remote desktop Gateway' using the same SSL listed above ^^ When the server boots. Remote desktop Gateway works fine. The routing and Remote access service does not start therefore my vpn does not work. To fix the routing and remote access service not starting. I have to restart the ...

Network Connector no longer connects remotely

I recently reconfigured Anywhere Access and Remote Web Access works fine now thanks to your help.  I have one problem however, my PCs no longer connect remotely, the network connector icon on the task bar stays grey and says "cannot connect to {Server name}".  I tried with both Windows 11 and Windows 10.  This used to work with Windows 10. I would really appreciate being able to update my machines to Windows 11 and that they retain that remote connection capability. Thanks in advance and have a  great day.

Problems setting up the domain name

My previously setup domain name no longer works. I tried many times to repair to no avail. When I try to change the domain name I get the following message: A error occurred while setting up your domain name The domain name was not set up for your server.  Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again.  An unknown error occurred.  Please wait a few minutes, and then try again. I am stuck in a loop I can't get out of.  I can't get this one to work and cannot get a new one.  ...

remotewebaccess.com

Is anyone aware of new issues with the remotewebaccess.com DDNS system? We have two customers now that have had new WAN IP addresses assigned that have failed to update in their respective remotewebaccess.com domains. One is using Server Essentials 2012R2 and one is using Server Essentials 2016.

AnyWhere Access Wizard Fails and Need to Renew Certificate on Windows Server 2016

Hello, I have a Windows Server 2016 Essentials server that was converted to Windows Server 2016 Standard this past year.  It is time to renew the SSL Certificate for the Remote and VPN access, but when I run the AnyWhere Access wizard, it fails with error "The domain name was not setup for your server...an unknown error has occurred.  Please wait a few minutes and try again".  Restarting/waiting does nothing.  The wizard also fails during the Repair Option. I was able to do a CSR from IIS and import the new Cert into IIS, but cannot bind ...

SBS 2011 to Exch 2016 on-premise, migrated mailbox - Outlook won't connect - stays disconnected

HI, Have been following the migration guide for SBS 2011 to Exch 2016, have completed all of the steps (double checked), however, when I migrate a test mailbox from SBS 2011 mail server to the new exchange 2016 mail server, Outlook (2016) remains disconnected. I can access the mailbox from https:\\IP of exch 2016\owa and send and receive email from that mailbox, so all looks good from that point of view but Outlook remains disconnected.  Have migrated the mailbox back to SBS 2011 mail server, and Outlook reconnects instantly - so don't want to proceed ...

Folder Redirection - Migrating

What is the best way to move Folder Redirection to another server? We have a failing domain controller that hosts Folder Redirection and we would like to move it from that server to multiple using DFS. What is the best way to copy the files to the new share location while preserving permissions, and change the Folder Redirection GPO? Is it best to modify the GPO or create a new one and unlink the old one?

2012 not R2 Essentials to 2019, stuck steps 15, 16, ...

Migrating a 2012 Essentials (not R2) to 2019. I am up to step 15 (remove Essentials) and 16 (migrate CA). These obviously don't work on non-R2, as per some other forum posts. Please let me know how I should proceed after step 14 to complete the migration. The guide has been very useful so far, thanks for taking time to document all the steps along the way. Thanks Glenn

Scripting (Silent?) Essentials connector install; Skip domain join

Dealing with a migrated domain, everything is absolutely fine.   Added an essentials server as a domain member.   Basically, its entire purpose is to act as a rdp gateway and a web interface to the computers on the domain, so workers can access their own PCs from out of office (Like in SBS).   In order for the PCs to be included in and accessible from the RWA ‘Devices’ section they require the essentials connector.   Now I am familiar with the registry option that skips the Domain Join portion of the connector install, that is not ...

Migration from SBS 2011 to Exchange 2016 on-premise guide

Hi, I'm just following the guide, and am at the stage where I need to migrate mailboxes, however, I can't see anywhere in the guide where it states to change mail flow of the incoming email (port 25) from the old SBS 2011 to the new Exchange 2016 server IP, and also I think that the new Exchange server would also need to have a send connector created at that point as well? I think once the mailboxes have migrated over to the new server, it is at that point that the SMTP port should be ...

Group Policy WSE Drive Mapping

At the outset of our Server Essentials 2016 installation, we set a Drive Mapping policy to map 'SBS Users' H: drive to the main shared drive on our server. How do I configure a login to which this mapping does not apply? This is for an external user who is doing some work for us, and needs to have an email account and access to network printing, but who we do not wish to have H: drive access?  I have created a separate volume for work folders, but setting 'no access' in the WSE Dashboard to the Shared ...

Cannot connect Windows 10 PC to Server Essentials 2012

We inherited a Server Essentials 2012 server/domain. We were previously able to run the connector to join Windows 10 PCs to the domain (unless they were in-place upgrades from Windows 7). We now have 3 PCs running Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 21H2 that produce the error message stating "Cannot connect this computer to the network" and "The server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information see Troubleshoot connecting computer to the server." We are in a single-DC environment, so moving forward I will refer to the Server Essentials 2012 server as "server." When ...

DNS Records

Hello All:   I recently completed changing my domain name from one name to another. After finishing the process, I ran the dcdiag command and obtained a dcdiag.txt file. I need someone to peruse this dcdiag file and tell me how to correct the errors that I am receiving when I run the command. FYI, the new domain name is a Microsoft domain, stoneandstone1.com and not the personal/business domain, stone-and-stone.com that I was using before. The 24.92.226.11 & 12 are my internet provider's IP addresses. I am wondering if that has something to do with the ...

Service Host: Local System

Hi, I have been running Server 2016 Essentials for a few years now and for the most part, I have no real issues. However, over the past few months, I have noticed that the above Process (see subject title) continually increases in the amount of RAM it uses. For example: - I have restarted the server today and after a few hours it sits at 174MB of RAM being used. Give it a 14 days and that figure will be around 1,500MB and if I leave it a few days longer things will start to ...

New device missing from Computer Access tab

When I go into a user and onto the Computer Access tab, there is a computer missing.  I've had all kinds of troubles with this computer.  It's been on the system before, but it was decommisioned and the recommissioned.  I eventually uninstalled the connect software, disjoined the domain, deleted the ProgramData\Windows Server Essentials folder, deleted the Windows Server Essentials scheduled tasks, re-joined the domain, and reinstalled the software.  I installed it with domain admin credentials, and I selected the option that I and others would be using this machine.  Now the machine shows up in the ...

Upgrading to Server Essentials 2019

Hi, When I bought the Server Essentials 2016 Licence it came with a free upgrade to Server Essentials 2019. As I rely on the Experience Role and easy to use dashboard I was wondering can this be kept in the 2019 version as we are simply upgrading. I've seen online this is possible but its a bit far out of what I feel confident doing and wondered do you do a "kit" that covers this or an easy to do guide. Thanks, Mick

Microsoft support won’t support Anywhere Access

We have a server 2016 essentials customer whose remote access stopped working. I have a support ticket open with MICROSOFT Who are telling me remote access to the client computers isn’t authorized in Server essentials 2016 and only access for admin purposes is allowed. As usual MICROSOFT doesn’t know their own flipping products. I’m so so sick of them. Does anybody know of anything that says that yes remote workers are allowed to access their computers to Server Essentials Community 2016 so that I can show it to this idiot?

Correct Order of Steps for WSE Configuration/Replication

I demoted SERVER2 and removed the Active Directory role On SERVER2 I joined the domain of SERVER3 I promoted SERVER2 to a DC I transferred the FSMO roles to SERVER2 I think I may have goofed with this, because ...
