Clients not backing up after Windows 10 v2004 Update

Hello all, I finally decided to upgrade my client machines from Windows 10 Pro v1909 to v2004, which apparently I shouldn't have done just yet.  After the update, none of the clients are backing up to Windows Server 2016 Standard.  I'm using the Essentials Experience Role to automate the backups.  The Essentials Dashboard on the server reports the computers offline ever since I did the update, so that can't be backed up.  However, the client machines' Windows Server Essentials icon is running in the task trays, I can sign in to the Dashboard, and access the server ...

Migration SBS2011 STD to WINDOWS SERVER 2019 STD w/o Exchange

Hi, I'm about to buy your migration kit to support me on this migration in a customer's site. My doubt is about which kit I should purchase considering that I will only migrate the DC because Exchange is not already running there. They also have user profiles redirected to a WS2008 file server in the Domain, which I want to break and revert them to the workstations. So, does the SBS2001 Essentials (€199) kit will be enough or, do I have to purchase any of the SBS2011 Standard kits? thanks in advance

Cant send a recive emails, exchange 2016

I had to recover a mail server from backup as the Exchange server was sitting on a bad sector, the mail store was on a sepetate drive and was ok the biggest problem was the backup had been failing for the last 2 weeks due to bad sectors but the exchange server kept going. I managed to restore the Exchange server that was 2 weeks old and attach the latest store, and that works ok, outlook is seeing all the emails that are in the store, the problem is the incomming and outgoing emails are not working, I have recreated the ...

Adding a second DC after upgrading from SBS 2008/2011 to Win 2019

Hello Mariette I was looking for thoughts on adding a second domain controller after we upgrade from SBS 2008/2011 single DC environment I know now the concept of a "Backup DC"  has been replaced with a RODC or a full second DC and I have read that best practices are to split some of the FSMO roles between both DC in a full two DC environment. I found your Migrations Guides to be the best resource I have ever seen in many years in the IT business. When we made our move from SBS2008 to  WIN2019/Exchanges ...

Server 2016 Essentials; Frequent RasServer Warning 50015 : "Specified Interface was not present in MGM"

Looked pretty much everywhere for an answer to this. MS say corruption to a DB will be resolved by RRAS Server Reboot. Not So. Tests indicate MGM (whatever that is) has no interfaces attached to it and may well not be installed. VPN & Anywhere Access both work OK No obvious (to me) issues. Some reports say just ignore it, but I would really like to eradicate it - there are enough floating/non real/ erroneous Event Viewer/BPA reports already. Anyone with ideas or solutions - please!

WSE 2016 "Check Email" tile URL?

My client has Windows Server 2016 with Essentials Experience enabled (WSE), and an internal Exchange server.  The Exchange server is integrated on the WSE Dashboard.  To resolve a Message Transfer Agent and firewall issue, I created separate IPs, URLs, and certificate SANs for email traffic (mail.x.com) and owa (web2.x.com).  The firewall sends only smtp traffic to mail.x.com and only https traffic to web2.x.com. The Check Email tile on the Remote Web Access screen shows the mail server URL (mail.x.com), OWA does not load when the tile is clicked, it goes to the mail server URL, not the ...

Best way to migrate from WSE 2016 environment to 2019

Hi Guys! first of all I thank you for the splendid job you did!  I've an Hyper-v robust server within 1 WSE 2016 DC, 2 W2016 members, 2 W2019 members, (I've another hyper-v server with a 2016 dc) and some virtual appliance. I'd like also to upgrade all machine to windows 2019 and: I know wse2019 is a bad choice (Remote Desktop and so on) so I've to migrate from WSE 2016 to W2019 standard + experience role install following this guide. Have I to migrate and then install experience role? There are several ...

New Server Hardware

Hi all, So we currently have a Dell R330 running Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2. We want to replace the hardware and run Server Essentials 2016 (2019 doesn't quite cut the cloth being as they removed half the features). I'm after some recommendations for the hardware... Ideally I'd like to get a new Dell server (to run the Server Essentials 2016 OS) in RAID 1 (hyper-v) and then potentially get a QNAP NAS to hold all data shares (connected via ISCSI).  The reason for this is if the server goes tits up the shares ...

I have a law firm client that wants to upgrade their server hardware running Server 2012 R2 w/Essentials. Should I look at 2019 since it drops Essentials or Server 2016 w/Essentials? Do you have guides for this migration? They don't do remote but they do like the Essentials server dashboard.   Thanks. --Art

Since all the the clients data had already been moved to the data drive the technician just reinstalled the OS onto the original C: and attached the original D: after the installation. ...

Server 2016 Essentials Dashboard - Will Not Open

After applying a version upgrade to the Trend WFBS Server running on the 2016 Essentials box, the Essentials Dashboard refuses to open.  If you double click on it the splash screen appears and hangs for 30 seconds then closes and nothing.  I suspect local cert issues.  Plenty of info on 2012 R2 but does not apply to 2016. Any ideas on how to look into this further or resolve?

Window Server Essentials 2016 user limit

We are a small contracting business with (5) users in the office, each with their own workstation. We have a 6th workstation set up by our plotter. We have two more workstations that are for training. We usually have 25-35 electricians in the field that will come in periodically to do safety training on these two workstations. I would like each employee to have their own login to the server. But I am not sure if this is possible with the 25 user limit. I am also using up two of the 25 users for two network printer / ...

Outlook certificate error

I have a client who uses Microsoft 365 for email services. Two of the staff have received Outlook certificate expiration errors...see screenshots attached. It appears the certificate issued by Let's Encrypt expired 9/13/2020. I don't use that SSL issuer and am not sure where this certificate comes from. Microsoft 365 says it could be from an old on-premises Exchange server but this client moved from on-premises quite a few years ago (don't recall the exact date). This certificate shows validity dates from 6/5/2020 to 9/13/2020 and I don't know why it got installed in Outlook. Support was not ...

What Format for the SSL Certificate for Exchange 2016

I ordered a SSL certificate from SSLs.com, a reseller for Comodo which is the same vendor that was used for the SBS before.  I used the EAC-certificates to generate the CSR. What I got back was a cert in the format of mail_domain_tld.zip.  Unzipping that results in two files, one named mail_domain_tld.crt the other mail_domain_com.ca-bundle.  Lacking any better instructions I imported the .crt file into the EAC-Certificates. and the EAC reports "valid". This makes me uneasy.  What is your opinion and what would you suggest I do or should have done? Thanks!!
