Moving Computers from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server Standard 2019

Hi, I am looking for documentation for moving Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise computers from Windows Server 2012 Essentials and joining to new installation of Windows Server Standard 2019.  The 2012 server will be in use at an old location; user's workstations will be moved from the old location to a new location with Windows Server Standard 2019 installed.  Do user profiles have to be rebuilt to join to the new server?  Or what is the process for unjoining the old domain and joining the new domain.  Thanks! Bev S

Visibility set to admin only, should not be visible

I need to migrate SBS 2011 to Wse2019essentials. Email already in office365.

OLD: SBS 2011 physical server with 6 users and 19 workstations NEW: WSE 2019 essentials physical with just the hyper-v role, and then again WSE 2016 essential as guest os that will be the new dc, dns, dhcp and fileserver. I'm at the point that the wse2019essentials is installed as hyper-v host and guest on a new "iron" as we say, and I'm ready to do the migration. I would want to have the same IP, name (and domain) on the new dc The old sbs 2011 is somewhat broken but still in service. The ...

Powershell error on Step 7, part 17 (SBS2011 to Server 2019 migration)

I received the following error on step 7, part 17 (see screenshot) when running the script: Install-ADDSDomainController -NoGlobalCatalog:$false -CreateDnsDelegation:$false -CriticalReplicationOnly:$false -DatabasePath "C:\Windows\NTDS" -DomainName $currentDomain -InstallDns:$true -LogPath "C:\Windows\NTDS" -NoRebootOnCompletion:$true -SysvolPath "C:\Windows\SYSVOL" -credential $cred -Force:$true -Confirm:$false -SafeModeAdministratorPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString 'ADRestoreModePassword_ChangeThis' -AsPlainText -Force) I checked that the domain admin was part of Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins (which it was). I noticed that the script created the new computer account (in a disabled state) on the small business server but the actual 2019 server was still in a workgroup so I enabled the account, moved it to the Domain ...

Migrate Files, Folders and Shares

I only have three shares that have data that need moving.  I can follow with using Robocopy to move them, which has been completed.  However the end user wants the shares to be named differently and mapped as different Drive letters.  Can I skip over the rest of this and just create fresh shares on the destination server? Thanks,   Greg

Recently migrated from SBS2011 to 2019

Everything went fine until I decommissioned the old server.  It went to workgroup and I changed its name and IP.  I tried to change the IP on the new server  to the previous one and it started to act slow then crashed.  I noticed that the Ethernet connection says private instead of domain also.  I figured that I would change the IP back, so I did.  Now Netlogon will not start and AD is not working. (It can't find the Domain)  I have alot of questions now..............Any help?

Migration of SBS 2011 to Server 2019

Hopefully this is one of the last two migrations I have from SBS 2011 to server 2019!  This server is getting flakey and sometimes requires a reboot or two during the day to keep the office up and running.  WSUS admin console will not run, it keeps opening and goes to Reset Node, The Exchange server will be moved to Hosted Exchange, I have a back end process from the hosted Exchange site that migrates the information for each user automatically with a administrative account, so I am not concerned about migrating to a local Exchange server.  A ...

Workstation trust relationship issue post SBS2011 to WSE migration

Hello, We have been following your migration guide and they have been extremely helpful.  With one of the last migrations to WSE2016 for an interstate client, after completing all the steps successfully (without error) and decommissioning SBS we have experienced ..."The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship" when trying to log into any workstation. Furthermore, the administrative account being used on SBS no longer worked, in fact, it appeared to have been removed from AD. The account appears in the WSE Dashboard under Users but nowhere ...

WseRemoteAccessUsers and WseRemoteWebAccessUsers groups populated...how?

I've reached the point in my migration where I've set up a WSE2016 server, and installed the connector software on most domain computers.  I noticed in my AD a bunch of new Security Groups created by the WSE2016 server. Two of them are WseRemoteAccessUsers and WseRemoteWebAccessUsers, and both of them are populated with EVERY user object in my AD, regardless of which OU it's in. I don't think this is a good idea, since some of those user objects are for managed service accounts, disabled accounts associated with Resource Mailboxes, and other special-purpose user objects. Many ...

Removing Exchange 2010 from SBS2011 when migrating to Server Essentials 2019

At what point in the migration process would it be wise to remove Exchange Server 2010 from SBS2011 given that the mailboxes have already been migrated to Office 365? Can it just be removed in the normal  (uninstall from add/remove progs) way or is there some particular procedure required on SBS2011 ?
