Configure Exchange 2016 with Powershell

Hi https://server-essentials.com/support/install-exchange-server-2016-in-existing-windows-server-essentials-2016-network Section 6 says.. ' Create a folder named ‘certificates’ in the root of the system drive and copy the certificate there you will use for Exchange ' and the snippet in step 4 mentions a certificate mail.domain….pfx. I cant see the steps how this was created? Thanks

Clarifications for some steps in the SBS 2003 to 2016 Essentials Migration tutorial

Hi, I'm about to migrate my church's SBS 2003 server to 2016 Essentials (we now need to support Windows 10, after all). I've read through the migration tutorial a few times, and need a little clarification on a few steps. I'm best described as having enough knowledge to be dangerous (mainly to myself...). Major Step 6 "Install Windows Server 2016 Essentials as a new replica domain controller in the SBS 2003 domain", sub-step 44: Choose a DSRMpassword. What are the restrictions on this password? (Can it be the same as the generic domain administrator account, for ...

SBS2011 to Server2016 standard w/ 2 Hyper-V servers

I'm at step 7 of the migration from SBS2011 to Windows Server 2016 using Hyper-V. The goal is to have 2 Hyper-V servers, one running Exchange. Should the new server have any software installed at this point in the migration?

Server Hardware Specs VM and Stand alone

Just wondering what specs you find works well...   1. Hyper V Server and then VM for Essentials and Exchange , I don't think I would want this accessible from the net so a dedicated pc would be needed to access Hyper V. Connect to pc, connect to Hyper V server with no clients team member using the pc. 64GB RAM, 32GB each server, RAID 10. 2. Essentials and then Exchange as a VM in Essentials.. Anyone tried this..64GB RAM, 32GB each server, RAID 10. 3. Each Stand alone server...32GB RAM, RAID 10 ...

Migration Robocopy vs restore from backup

I'm using robocopy to get data from 2012R2 Essentails to 2016 Essentials. My last 2 shares are about 2TB and will take 24-36 hours to complete. Is there any technical reason one shouldn't recover them from a backup to the new server? All NTFS permissions would carry over and it'd be quite a bit faster. Then when I'm ready to fully cut off the old server run robocopy to makes sure all changes make it over.

Unable to complete 'How to install and configure RSAT on Windows 10' tutorial

I should acknowledge up-front that my network is now a mess.  I will state my problem but will also clarify a large variety of things that are in various stages of broken. I have installed Hyper-V 2016 on a standalone workstation (eventually I hope to get a virtualized instance of Windows Server 2016 Essentials running there as well).  I have installed the RSAT tools on a Windows 10 Professional laptop.  Things go wrong for me at Step 13 when I expect to see the Hyper-V server in the management console ready to be managed but instead I see ...

Confused with final steps of migration from sbs2008 to server 2019 essentials.

Hi, wonder if anyone can give me a few pointers with last steps of migration, I have done ok until now but bit unsure as where to go next? On the old server I migrated FRS to DFSR, also raised forest function level to server2008 as prompted by the admin panel on 2019 following the "you must promote this server to DC" warning/prompt. This has now cleared so seems almost there. At the moment dhcp is still handled by the old machine but my aim now is to shut down the older server, so getting dhcp going ...

Exch 2010 to Exch 2016 on Hyper-V OS

I have apparently installed Exchange 2016 on the host Hyper-v server and not the intended virtual machine! Not sure how that happened. Do I have to uninstall Exchange? If yes, how do I do that?

Lets Encrypt.. validation did not complete successfully

https://server-essentials.com/support/get-a-free-lets-encrypt-certificate-anywhere-and-automatically-renew-it Honest, I have read it numerous times...lol Step 18 passes But validation does not complete. Marriette, where was that log in step 22 ? 1. http://remote.domain.com/ - IIS page 2. https://remote.domain.com/remote - I get security issue and when click continue I get RWA is off which I presume is expected as anywhere access has not completed So ports and forwarded to server are working. n.b Test server in a Hyper VM, DNS for remote.domain.com returns correct IP

SBS 2011 with backup dc -> migration to O365

Hello Mariette, I just bought your SBS 2011 migration kit to Office 365. It looks great and I cannot await using it in the upcoming days! An important question before I start: You mention at the beginning of the guide, that if you have a second dc installed the guide is not usable. That's sad, because exactly this is my scenario!  I have a SBS 2011 and a second Domain Controller as member server at the customer's side. This because he has two sites and we wanted to place a dc on both of them ...

wbadmin systemstatebackup to USB flash drive

I bought a 512GB USB flash drive, formatted it to NTFS. It has less than 500GB. wbadmin reports that it can't find the drive.  Do I have to buy a 1TB flash drive? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You for a successful migration - now need to look at new migrations

Thank you Mariëtte and team I completed the migration last weekend and it is all working perfectly! The only error I made was not buying enough hard disks for the new server but we got those installed now.  I'm looking to start another 2 x migrations so was wondering which Server Essentials Kit package I should get next.  There are two servers at two different customers -  1x running SBS 2011 standard (will need to move email to O365)  and 1 x running SBS 2011 essentials which is should be ...

Migrate SBS 2011 To Server 2016 (including Exchange 2016)

Hi there and thanks for sharing your knowledge. So as the title indicates above I'm moving from SBS (unfortunately due to Microsoft lowering the user limit) to Server 2016 (and going to include the Essential Experience role) Migrate SBS 2011 to Windows Server 2016 Essentials A secondary part is moving Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 Migrate Exchange Server 2010 from SBS 2011 to a new Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 . Hyper V manager & Server Manager

Mariëtte, I have followed your tutorial on Install Hyper V 2016 and I have created a VM to run WSE 2016. I completed my migration from SBS2011  all went well. I have joined the Hyper V host and the work station that I ran RSAT from, to the domain. It would appear I do not have permission to connect to the HYper V host now through Hyper V manager. I can rdp into the Hyper V host and I have added domain admin as a user on the hyper V to no avail. Can you advise please JOE

DFSR Migration Question - migrating from a previously migrated server

Good Day - I'm currently at the section 2 #14 - dfsrmig /getglobalstate and it says I'm at 'Eliminated'; however, it should be known here that this is a previously migrated server from 5 years ago going from SBS2003 to SBS2011, so, it probably should say that. Now, I'm asking the question, is it possible to migrate this server again, from SBS2011 to Server 2016 Essentials? Can I get the dfsr state to start again? Thanks Jeff Adzima

Single Client Workstation Not Backing Up on WSE Network

We manage a small WSE 2012 R2 network with eight Windows 7 Professional workstations.  We use the WSE client backup system to back up the workstations (to an external USB drive on the server).  This function has worked very well for several years.  However, as of early May, one of the workstations consistently fails during backup attempts, whether they are started manually from the server or via the automatic scheduling system.   Shortly after this workstation begins a backup (never gets past one percent), it fails and returns error messages such as "backup did not succeed" and "backup did ...

Hyper-v servers won't boot

On Windows Server Std 2016, I'm trying to create 2 hyper-v servers. At first one server would boot to a cd. The second would try to boot off the network. After serveral iterations, I deleted the virtual disks and created 2 new virtual servers, generation 2. Now they both try to boot off the network. I'm using the downloaded Microsoft Windows Server 2016 .iso file. How to I fix this so they boot?
